Black plasti dip stock rims and mirrors

So thanks to this forum, I found out about Plasti Dip.
I've done my mirrors before as a trial but hated it and redid them.. and still hate them (getting them wrapped or ordering black painted ones).
The rims have 5 coats of black plasti dip and 3 coats of glossifier.

Some tips for those who want to try plasti dip on their rims:
1. Go to the youtube channel for dipyourcar.com for instructions
2. Use a well ventilated garage but not windy. OR get a proper mask. The fumes after 3 coats started to make me high.
3. Shake the cans for at least 5 minutes. The more the better. It will result in smaller particles and when they are applied in very thin layers - it will result in a smooth surface.
4. AVOID thick coats. It may appear nice a smooth when wet but it will dry with little dimples due to the air escaping. Many thin coats!
5. Use a sharp knife around the ///M logo to get a clean margin

I think they look amazing. I'm just hoping it's durable enough. Much better than getting them painted for like AUD $250 each rim (says my dealer). Plus I can sell the car with stock rim colour.

Sorry about the quality of the photos - taken with my new HTC One Mini (which has a shit camera)

Rims look good, did you take them off to do this? Or leave them on? Also, did you remove center caps? Mask them? Or just spray over them, then cut around and peel off?

Nah left them on. Centre caps left on. Put a bit of painters tape in the middle to easily peel off the plasti dip

You should try the plasti dip wheel cleaner, I haven't used it but would assume it's formulated not to mess with the coating too much.

Damn those look nice. Estoril blue with plastidipped rims, mirrors, and spoiler would look very nice.

Waiting for a 70+ degree day when I'm off work again to do the exterior logos on the car. I found if you let the can(s) sit in hot water for 10 minutes before shooting on a warm surface it comes out much smoother. Will post pics once I finally get to it.

Wow - I have watched some of the videos online for this, but I am surprised it looks so good.

The contrast with the MG is awesome.

I plan on doing this exactly and so happy with how it turned out for you. I'm going to do my wheels, kidney grills, emblems, mirrors, and entire roof. Makes no sense to me spending over $600 for mirror caps, and $120 for black grills on a lease. And it should all last the 3 years I will have the car ad so easy to take off and put back to stock. What was wrong with the mirrors when you dipped them? Why didn't it come out looking good?

just a warning that black plasti dip is not quite black enough to match the black gloss that already exists on the car. it is noticable.. especially in direct sunlight

Oh ok thanks. Maybe I can plastidip the exterior trim and black pieces also so they all match. I'll look at how the wheels look first and decide.

FYI. The Msport emblem is coming off! Lol! It's too GAUDY
Looks great you planning on doing the mirrors and kidney grills also?
