I know there's one in the center console but wasn't there also supposed to be one in the glovebox ?

I don't remember seeing anything about the glove box.

However, BMW does sell an adapter that goes into one of the 12v slots that has 2 USB slots - you can find it on here, I just can't remember which thread it was in.

Obviously that would just be for power though... no interface to the entertainment system.

IF you have Nav (w/hard drive) then you will also have a 2nd USB slot in the glove box.

Are you sure?

F2X series cars fitted NBT Pro nav do not appear to have the 2nd USB port in glove box. My Q4 '13 build M135i with pro nav NBT doesn't have it.

Humm... well, maybe they don't then. My car doesn't have Navi, but on other e82's ('10's and up)that do have it I have seen an extra USB slot in the glove box. Maybe ask your dealer or BMW NA >?

Should I not be leaving a thumb drive in the center console USB port when the car is parked (overnight, or for many hours at a time)? Does it draw power constantly and potentially drain the battery?

It is completely safe to leave the usb stick plugged it. It will not draw power when the car is turned off.

page 139/140 of the owners manual says WITHOUT professional navigation/TV the USB is in the glove box. Vehicle WITH prefessional navigation/tv the USB is in the center arm rest. it's one or the other, the car only has one usb port.

Ok, that's good. The main reason I asked is because when I get into the car and before I turn it on, if I plug in the stick, there's a little LED on it that lights up. Maybe that's because the key is in range so the car is in some sort of "pre-start" mode where some components become active? But if the key is out of range, no power would go to the stick?

Glove box USB was eliminated in MY 14. The manual is either out of date or it's only US that had it removed.

My 228 without nav or tech package has only one USB port in the center console

I have a UK RHD version with Business Navigation and it has two USB ports. One in the glove box and one in the arm rest.

However the only thing I seem able to do with the glovebox port is save/load user profiles to a USB.

My understanding is that with the professional navigation you are able to use the glove box port to save media to the internal hard drive.
