A lot of the users on here like to go with the Akebono Ceramic pads. However, going with a ceramic pad will pretty much be a down grade in braking since you lose the initial brake bite and power from the OEM pads. Ceramics are great if you want low dust.

I have the Akebono Ceramic pads and I love them. They keep my BBS's much cleaner than the stock pads. I will get them again when they are done.

I installed Akebonos recently and do not see this initial brake bite concern one to be an issue. What actually does initial brake bite have to do with anything related to braking capability anyway. These Akebonos feel as capable as any pad I have used and do not make any dust. I guess if this initial brake bite means something to you than stick with the OEM pads. I think you would be very pleased with the performance of the akebono ceramics while having clean wheels at the same time.

I have used EBC stuff before in my other cars,
I remember using them a lot in England, I think they are a British company too? Maybe I'll be a bit different and get the Red Stuff

One thing no one EVER mentions about the Akebono's are the pads are JUST slightly smaller than OEM. If you hit the brakes while in reverse (after applying normally going forward) you will hear a clunk noise as they shift in bracket. My mechanical told me about this when I asked him his opinion on the Akebono's. All other mentions about them are true.

Akebono baby. I have Akebono on my rear with Zimmerman Rotors and front is all OEM until they wear out. After a month of heavy driving you can swipe a finger in the front and it will come out black, swipe in the rear and you will have almost nothing on your finger.
But like most have said the bite is not as good as OEM. But gets better over time or I have just gotten use to it.

I have a 2011 335is in which I never had brake dust until the dealer replaced the rears. My fronts are the originals and does not produce any dust. Now that the dealer replaced the rears, I get a lot of dust in the rear. I'm wonder what kind of OEM pads I have that does not generate dust in the front or the original rears?

I'm putting them on tomorrow along with new front rotors.
Centric series 125 High Carbon Blank (I don't really know what they're called anymore) Stoptech street performance pads. Rears will remain OEM pads and rotors as braking is mostly done by the front anyways. |

Did you have to order pads for a newer model year or are they ALL the same compound now no matter which model year you choose? I'd be curious to see if there's a difference in part numbers, etc. Either way, I've heard the same thing in the past regarding lower amounts of dust on the newer compound.

I've got that exact setup on my bro's '07 G35x. He goes easy on the car but those pads still dust a good amount; almost, if not just as much, as our OEM BMW pads actually.

Looking at it from Rock Auto and the Stoptech with the Centric High Carbon alloy seems to be a cheaper. Might consider that option.

Yeah I just checked rock auto and they have centric ceramics for around $75 front and rear?
Thats such a good price when compared to other brands, I can't see centric being bad, If I recall Ive had them on other cars,

I'm partial to Autozone Duralast Golds. Low dust, comparable performance to OEM, and lifetime warranty. It's hard to argue with a brake pad that you'll never have to pay to replace for as long as you own the car.
