S55 vs S63tu - Turbo performance and characteristics
Comparing these two engines, obviously one is 50% larger than the other, but how do the turbos stack up against each other? Specifically, I'm curious about :
* Size of the turbos * If they pretensioned the same way in Sport+ * Power and torque curve (does the same "linear" argument after 5500 rpm apply in S63tu?). Obviously one is newer than the other, but given the opportunity, would you have taken a S63tu in an M3 chassis? |

We do know they are pretensioned in Sport+
But to answer your final and most important question, no. Simply no. If I wanted that, I would've bought an M5. |

S55 can be run at higher RPM and delivers maximum HP from 5500 to 7500 RPM while S63tu delivers maximum HP from 5750 to 7000 RPM
Both S55 and S63tu deliver maximum torque from 1500 to 5750 RPM

The reason half of the reviewers mention it is because it stops making more power at 5500 rpm . This takes a lot of the excitement out of the experience of revving it to redline as acc does not increase after 5500 but remains constant . To those not blinded by midrange punch it's very noticeable dynamically when that happens and many don't like it . That's why the S63 TU is a best of both worlds motor as it has massive midrange but actually continues to make MORE power right up to redline . Anyone would prefer it on the dynamic chassis of the M3/4 . Let's see some real world dynos and Vbox numbers on the S55 to be sure , but when experienced journalists complain about something there is usually something to it .

Yes. It's correct because S63tu has over %30 more power than S55 while F13 M6 is less than %20 heavier than F80 M3/F82 M4. The main factor to determine which car reaches 250 km/h first is Horsepower!
