Yay another flat tire...

This time another sidewall... the question is can I actually drive slowly with an extra load 19 inch low-profile Michelin PSS tire?

I know it's an extraordinarily bad idea but I'm in a pinch and I need a fairly quick response - please help.

*edit* 5 miles is quite the distance. However, you technically can, however you run the risk of banjaxing your rims. Or worse loss of control. If you have to, drive as slow as you can and try to limit your turning, if at all possible. If the damage has gone from side wall to bead then I would strongly recommend that you do not drive at all.

Good to hear that, however sorry to hear about your tire. I swear BMW's are magnets for random flats and other sharp metallic objects...

Agreed. Sporting 19" low profiles on NJ roads doesn't help.

Thank you for the well wishes.

You made the right choice - not worth the risk. Bummer. Good luck with getting back on the road!

Does make one wonder about keep that spare in the trunk tho....

UPDATE- BMW assist sucks balls, and so does the local towing company. I couldn't wait three hours, and made it home into my driveway on a flat front tire.

Tire is still there, and rim LOOKS fine. Fuck it.

I never exceeded 25 mph at most, and was mostly at 15 mph, tediously avoiding every single road hazard.

Guess we'll see just how strong these 19" 199 OEM BMW rims are.

Next time use your insurance company roadside. Never waited longer than 20-30 minutes using USAA. Even on vacation down the shore. Glad you made it home. Hope your wheel is ok.

Guess

I'd make sure the tire shop checks that wheel, making sure it's still true to form.

That really sucks you had to deal with that. My guess is they just use the cheapest towing option and they aren't so great with response times.

Thank you brother. I was more concerned about the occasional clatter in the dash at one point than the rim. The tire shop is good at what they do- so we'll see what the damage is (figuratively and literally) when I stop back up to Prestige BMW in Ramsey next week.

It is what it is. I am conflicted now...I swear I have no luck lately, I am almost convinced I should go back to 18" wheels with RFTs...but I'm pretty sure I won't.

I'm in the same boat brother except I cracked my rim as well. My tire just came in today but my rim hasn't yet. Not sure what's taking so long. The tire took over a week. My car is up on Jacks since last Friday night.

I know bro...I'm just hoping I didn't do any significant damage.

I threw a spare small jack I had laying around, plug kit, and (good) small compressor in the trunk since I don't have RFT's either now. I have free roadside for 5yr/100k through my warranty co. But I can't rely on that all the time, and i'd like a backup plan.

Have you considered getting a spare tire kit from Bavarian? Or is that not the same size as the rest of the wheels, because that obviously won't help.

We should all write the governor a letter on fixing these damn roads.

Forgot about that. Maybe now would be a good time to have a tow company lined up for any other emergencies. As stated above, insurance companies will typically have a decent tow company on hand.

If not, have a good companies card in your wallet just incase you gotta fork out some dough on a tow truck, and maybe the insurance company will reimburse you?

My mechanic said that in NJ, BMW stands for Bend My Wheel. And based on my driving, and reading stories like this, he wasn't lying.

My bet is that your wheel is fine, if not, shouldn't be a huge repair for a good wheel repair shop.

I just hope I didn't knock half my front end loose LOL

Yes, I'm thinking it's okay too- those OEM rims are pretty damn strong I hear.

Sounds like all good ideas. I totally wasn't thinking. I just hope I catch a break for awhile.

I took the opportunity to get all new Michelin PSS tires- it was about time anyway- on the upswing, the Tirerack sales rep said the good news was they just started another 70$ rebate for Michelins- what a guy!
