Adding more bass to the HK system...

Hello guys...

As many of you know... the HK systems lacks a bit of bass, Now I am not looking for bass that outside people can hear, just something musical that compliments the music that is being played... This problem is non-existen on F30 cars with HK... they have a lot of bass, even too much but it can be adjusted.

Has anyone replaced the two subs under the seat to get better bass?

I was thinking the same thing.

Option 1: Two earthquake 8" subs powered by small amp; or

Option 2: Sub box in trunk. As I already have a two 12" Kicker box (in trunk awaiting amp) I will probably go this route.

Can't say for sure as I do not know what changes were made for the 2 series, but on older BMWs with seat subs, it took a dremel to flatten some ridges on the holder and a foam gasket. There is an install video on youtube.

Biggest issue is that the system is probably 4 ohm and the earthquakes are 2 ohm. Mismatch will likely kill amp. Therefore a small amp for the subs would be better.

With sub box in the trunk, does any type of opening need to be cut into the cabin or does sound simply penetrate to the cabin without any holes cut into main cabin? Also, with the HK amp in the trunk, what type of outputs are available to tap into specifically for a additional subwoofers? Are there low level outputs or speaker level outputs. And, are there low frequency only outputs or full frequency outputs?

Don't know about the other issues, but I would be wary trying to drive more speakers off the amp due to risk of damage.

I'm planning on putting a JL 13TW5v2 sub and XD600 amp in a custom enclosure on one side of the trunk to add some lows with a kick.
