Intravee & Alpine iPod Installed

Got the Intravee and Alpine KCA420i ipod adapter installed. The hardest part of the entire installation was removing the CD changer that came with the car. I ordered a storage bin to replace the CD changer. I mounted the KCA-420i to the black bracket on left side and velcroed the Intravee to the firewall next to the opening. I left a serial-to-USB cable attached to the Intravee and routed that under the carpeting to the battery area.

Being a gadget freak, I think it is great how the Intrave/Apline can control the iPod and display the info on the nav screen.

Do you have a part number for the storage bin?

Thanks,

Storage box to replace the CD changer is 51467043818. That is the pn to use with the nav computer. realoem.com has a good diagram.

I really like the velcro holder idea on the flip down door for the center console. How'd you do it? I want my iPod there too.

Thanks for the part number. The velcro holder on the console door came standard on my '04 z4.

Awesome! I'll be doing this on Saturday along with a CHA-S634 changer and the TUA-T500HD radio receiver. Was it very difficult? Any pointers or tips?

Thanks,
Jim

The install was pretty straightforward. I used the DICE install writeups on the forums to figure out how to detach the trunk carpeting. The BMW CD Changer installation instructions were invaluable on how to take apart the console and get the CD changer out: http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/6042EN.pdf; after that it was pretty much plug and play. You will want to update the Intravee firmware to 5.40-323 to fix a few display glitches on the nav screen.

I looked at the HD receiver, but decided to hold off for now. I will be interested in how you mount that and hook it up. I was not sure where to get switched power for it.

Just as a comparison, i DIYed a velcro holder there as well ( ). Just use a nice sized piece of velcro with the fuzzy side stuck to the car and the hooks stuck to the ipod. Normally I would never stick anything directly to the ipod, but this is a pretty old one that only lives in the car these days. The interface pictured there is Intravee II / Alpine.
