2 Wait or not 2 Wait

I have been looking to do euro delivery in early October right after Oktoberfest wraps up. I would like to take delivery of a 2015 M235i. Ordering just opened up, yet model continues to come from dealer allocation. I am early to order for October - 90 to 60 days prior is normal - but I can order now.

Obviously two things come into play here, dealer I choose to work with will need to have an allocation they're willing to use for October and their willingness to negotiate on price decreases quite a bit from what most think of with ED pricing. So far here in Los Angeles, I've gotten ED MSRP from three sales advisors.

If the car were known to be out of dealer allocation indefinitely, then the point would be moot, but that is not yet known and most, including myself, suspect the car will eventually come from ED allocation instead. I could place an order now and have a monthly payment somewhere around $650 for a car priced around $52k US MSRP, but if I were looking at normal ED pricing, it would be more along the lines of $550 a month.

Do I place an order now to secure an allocation and date, wait a month before putting in order, order a 228i/435i instead? :P

Not even sure how I would deal with putting in an order now and if allocation status changes, if it's kosher to switch to a standard ED order to renegotiate the deal with the sales advisor. On the one hand, I'm sure they wouldn't mind keeping their allocation and getting a free bonus for the ED sale, but in reality they are losing a guaranteed sale to a smaller commission. I know personally it wouldn't sit well with me to watch as others take delivery of cars and walk away with a payment $100 less a month because they were able to wait a couple extra months.

As far as I'm aware, the headlight washers were not an option on the M235i, which is why the price for the cold weather pkg is $700 on the 228i and $550 on the M235i. I haven't bought one though, so I don't know what actually shows up at your doorstep. Just going off the 2014 vs 2015 ordering guides.

I will tell you if you haven't been to Oktoberfest yet, definitely do so. It's a lot of fun. Just make sure you score some good tickets to one of the tents. Try and get there on one of the international nights, I ended up talking to a pair of ethnically Japanese, born in Mexico twins dressed up in dirndls on the Italian night. The whole thing is completely insane. Also keep in mind that the Germans cut their beer with lemonade so if you are trying to "keep up" with straight beer you're really doing double.

I'll actually be in Paris for five days while Oktoberfest is happening. I think a week of is too much for me before taking delivery of a new car. I'll have to go back to Munich another time for this.

Definitely do it. That and La Tomatina are the two festivals I would definitely hit at some point if you haven't.

When I went I flew from Chicago to Munich, worked the whole flight, landed 9AM went to the office there all day then hit the Fest. Had a 7AM meeting the next day, more Fest, then 10AM flight the day after. I honestly thought I was going to die on the flight back and have them dump my body in the Atlantic.

Glad I ordered a 2014. With no real model differences, the extra 1k incentive and the 350 HK credit which should eventually come, it worked out well.

If leasing, ordering a 2014 if you can track one down or an allocation for that would be the way to go.

My current lease matures in December, so October is the earliest I can pick up for ED, which puts 2014 completely out of the question.

At this point, I don't think a 2014 ED is even possible if you haven't already started the process.

So what's the deal with the HK credit? Looks like they haven't updated the price for 2015...Are folks still able to get that $350 credit? If yes, can someone remind me of the process?

There was never any indication that the price would be reduced, only that those who ordered, believing they were getting something they weren't, would be refunded $350. Description was fixed to show the real contents.... that's it. End of that saga.

I'm in the same boat and I'm also waiting for the LSD to be offered as a port install option

The problem is:
1) ED allocation vs dealer allocation as you mentioned which makes a huge difference in your ability to get ED invoice plus pricing
2) LSD as port install option which can be residuallized on a lease, ( I ain't paying full retail for the LSD on a leased car)
3) Come November, you wont be able to drive the car in Germany with the PSS tires
4) If I wait until next spring, the M2 becomes that much closer and more tempting to wait for

Conclusion I also don't know what to do at this point.
My advise wait for now and see what happens by August

Thanks for the feedback. To make things even more critical, I am already going to be in Europe, so I am going to have a couple days fixed to pick up the car. So, I will be picking something up.

It also pains me to break news to you which you won't like, but if you do ED, port installed accessories will not be available to you. It has been confirmed that BMW is not allowing PIA on ED specified orders and are rejected by the ordering system. This started happening late last year. My only assumption is quiet pushback from dealerships wanting a piece of the action back on ED cars, but no one seems to know. As of now, you can't even get M Performance decals if you do ED.

If true that truly sucks. So my options assuming I really want the LSD on a lease is to do normal US delivery then.. Maybe I should grab a 2014 but then again port install is still not offered

By the way in your situation since you will already be in Europe, it's a no brainer.. Do the ED even if it's dealer allocation. But wait until august to place the order, you never know maybe by then it will be ED allocation. ED invoice plus 1000 should be doable in that scenario.

Yeah the no PIA for ED is what I have heard from multiple sources. Sucks. Options on a lease are stupid expensive at that point.

I guess I will wait, but I am trying to see if any dealers around are willing to cut me a break. So far three have said MSRP.

I might forget the ED and the LSD, go to my dealer on Saturday and order 2014 .. The 1000 bucks in incentives plus the 500 savings from the tech package not including smart phone integration for 2015 make up half the ED savings. What do you think?

ED for me is a must. If you are not dead set on it, I could see that decision working out for you. It really all depends. May find dealers who have slots open for 2014 don't want to play ball and cut you a good deal.

I skipped ED last time. I was impatient. I regretted it.

I already did ED in 2008 so this time it's more about the savings than the experience, although it never gets old obviously !!

Every dealer have 1 special ED allocation per month for M235i which does not come out from their normal allocation. They need to make aware and use that. I am able to get it from board sponsor with $xxxx over ED Invoice.
