Anyone playing Crysis ?

I've been playing this for the last week.

Fantastic game - just wondered if anyone else had it?

It looks incredible, but the amazing part is the sheer variety of different ways in which you can complete the missions.

It's a PC only game. The graphics are insane, it's really the next gen of computer games

On my 'to get' list. Just finished Half Life Episode 2 (PC) (Stunning game. Love the way the plot unfolds through each episode). Will probably go for Crysis next. It's one I've been looking forward to for a while.

Crysis is way beyond anything I have played before.

Graphics are totally next gen and very power hungry. I can only play on 'medium' settings at 1680x1050 with a E6600 Core 2 Duo and BFG OC 8800GTS video card.

Most other games run easily at max settings, but this one is a killer.

In response to Carlos - the plot is pretty straightforward stuff .. you are a special forces type guy and are sent to a sort of tropical island where you end up fighting Koreans and giant alien robots.

The twist is that you have a nano-suit, which allows you to use short bursts of speed, temporary invisibility (cloaking) and temporary super strength.

What makes it amazing is the open gameplay. You are supposed to complete missions, but you can do this in a massive number of ways.

You can creep around using cloaking slashing throats like some sort of ghost, jump in like rambo and blast away with the shotgum roam the entire jungle looking for sniper posts, take out helicopters and tanks from miles away with the rocket launcher. Steal enemy transport and use it against them.

This thing can eat up hours of your life.

Looks amazing, but well beyond my humble PC and apart from TF2, I'm using the 306 for games these days. Plus I'll be broke(ish) from Friday so no PC for a bit.

Got an official version for my Birthday - great game - very hardware hungry though. Not played it much though as way too busy with Assasins Creed on the 360 - Amazing game.

Finished it last night.

Shorter than I expected, but absolutely brilliant.

As some of the users have commented it seemed to get a little less interesting and more linear toward the end, but I think that just reflects on the pure genius of the initial levels.

I'm getting 25-30 fps, with shaders and textures on high, everything else medium and resolution at 1680x1050.

How the hell do you play games on a Peugeot?

NFS, I've been thinking about a nice swanky new GFX card, so this might swing it. Looks awesome!

I've got one of these fellas:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...aufenundbe1-21

It does OK with Crysis, but the factory set overclocking causes a bit of stuttering and freezing time to time. It's the first game I have played that actually tests the card significantly.

The BFG 8800GT is out now as well. Bit cheaper and by all accounts somewhat faster as well:

You are going to see a massive improvement.

I upgraded from a PNY 7600GT and the difference was pretty immense.

You need to have a decent core 2 duo processor or better to see the benefit though. My previous Pentium 4 (3.6 GHz) couldn't keep up with the 8800GTS

I have a dual core and am considering an upgrade to an 8800. according to PC Gamer, (which I've subscribed to for many years), the 8800GTS offers 'superb value, giving top notch performance on all but the largest screens for half the price of its big brother' (£150-180). Tempting.

Crysis looks superb. I've now finished HL2 Ep2 and am looking for something new and exciting!

According to the reviews I read the frame rate differences between a good GTS and the GTX are reasonably minor unless you are playing above 1080x762

As I play in widescreen 1680x1050 I reckon I would see a difference, but the GTX's are still too pricy.

The GT looks good for the money though.

D'oh!

It's a toss up between a new GFX card and a 24" LCD at the moment. Both and my Mrs will kill me and to be honest I need he monitor for photo editing.

Might not be so critical to gaming, but the extra memory and access speeds on the cards help when dsiplaying and moving larger, textured scenes.

I don't do so much with real-time 3D, but do a lot with 3D rendering and modelling. I was at a conference where nVidia did a little private presentation of their latest hardware (trying to get us to buy the Pro versions). Stunning technology in the new graphics cards - not tied down with specific, dedicated memory/processors, but available with sharing : so as much of the avialable memory and processors get used as possible. Seems quite a few people have wired these up as their processors for intensive tasks, due to their almost limitless scaleable parallel processing abilities. Makes your head melt.

Are you using SLi, NFS - or just the one card ?

D.

You definitely need SLI for crysis at 2500x1600. My friend's PC with the new evga 8800GT S/C got like 5fps at that res (30" LCD).

Thankfully, my plasma is only 1080p so don't need that high a resolution. No room for another card in my PC anyway - I'm just hoping the dual core 4200 and an 8800gt will cut it so I don't play in jerkovision.
