BMW Oil Change interval

Hope this is not a i did a for oil change but could not find the answer.

How come all cars get an oil change at 3000miles but my car (06 Z4) needed over 16,000 miles before the car computer told me to go. BMW refused to change the oil until the car requested it.

What is different about BMW that allows this to happen.

BMW uses synthetic oil. I would change it on your own at 5k or before, and every 5k after that. The oil in the first oil change is VERY dark. By doing the oil change early, at least it will get rid of the little metal particles that are floating around from the new engine.

You are entitled to a free annual oil change. The dealerships don't advertise this for obvious reasons. To save $$$

+1 AND doesn't have a super fine screen which gums up AND expects you to dump the car before 100k miles.

Thanks for the info. Good to know about the free annual oil change.

As as side note I put synthetic in my wife's Toyota Sienna and the car request an oil change less than 5000 miles later. Interesting to see that there is such a large difference with the BMW
