I'm probably in the minority here but I just want BMW to port that new 7-series interior over to the X7, lights, screens and all

As someone who has had both the 2023 760 and now the X7, I like X7 interior a lot better! I hated the cheap plastic interior door handles/switches as well as the screens in the back doors. The automatic door also was too slow to be useful. I find X7’s interior (doors and center console) more elegant and usable. Looking fancy in photos is one thing but daily usability in long run is what wins.

I would have to agree to disagree. The 760 and X7 both have very refined cabins in their own ways, but I would absolutely not call the former “cheap” in comparison by any degree of measure. Every surface and knob feel absolutely solid and refined, and both my wife and sister are huge fans of the Swarovski seat controls. My wife actually wishes the front passenger seat had the same dedicated mini touch control screen, since digging through them using the main display is a bit of a hassle. She’s also a huge fan of the auto doors, but especially the fact that they stop at any position rather than slam on you like in the X7.

Just an example. The circled portion of the door and all the switches there are cheap plastic and when you rest your knee against it, it squeaks a bit over time (adding X7 door photo for comparison)

Probably will do some of that on the next one.

Anyone else surprised the mediocre HK system isn’t the base audio in BMW’s largest SUV?

Yes. Insane. I have a 2021 with hifi and I didn’t even think to check that before I bought it a couple years ago. I do think it is base in the M50/M60 but not positive.

But yes, that’s surprising and disappointing.

HK is standard on the M60i since at least MY23!

We just rented a GLS 450 for a week, a 2023 with 6,000 miles on it. I hated it. It drives like a Suburban, feels much larger than it is, and the high hood line reduces visibility, probably because of the new Euro regulations. The AC was Ok, not great, the small vents make it loud when you turn it up, very un Mercedes like. It had the Burmester, probably the base system and was very average. The infotainment controls are terrible. BMW's system especially with the iDrive controller is much better. Maybe the GLS 580 with the Body Control Package drives better.

For a brief time when I was looking at CPO X7s that were coming off leases, I noticed most of them had the base HiFi audio. It's just not a good look for the brand's top SUV!

The biggest regret on my X3 w/the HiFi audio was thinking that it could be easily upgraded as in the past but the current RAM setup makes it pointless to upgrade anything other than speakers.

How come you didn’t pull the trigger on a CPO x7? I’m thinking of doing something similar for my family hauler soon.

Im also surprised they don’t ALL come with the multi contour seats. The base sport seats found also in the x5 do not cut it in the x7 - ridiculous

CPO searches turned up poorly equipped builds. Since supply was still low last year, well equipped X7s with good Carfax histories were being bought out at lease end (remember the horrendous interest rates?). We turned our attention to new X7s but:

1) All dealers wanted MSRP in my area (even the dealer I had gotten the X3 from less than 6 months before).
2) The trunk was nearly useless when third row is up (big family).
3) My wife loves Mercedes and we were shopping her DD so it was nearly a forgone conclusion!

While I concede that it’s plastic, would definitely not call it cheap. It’s positively high quality, and it has zero give or squeak in my car. The interior designers were going for a more modern “piano black” look on these surfaces to contrast with the speaker mesh and various lights, and the only alternative to plastic for this would be lacquered wood which would mar instantly on such a frequently used surface. I really like the X7 leather trim around these switches, but the surrounding theme is completely different.

This photo perfectly illustrates how well the lights reflect off this piano black surface.
