I didn't buy an M3 because of its heritage yet alone badging (because the E9x has so much in common with an E30 M3). I bought an E92 M3 because I like the car for what it is. Could have been called the BMW Zamboni and I would have still bought it

Can't wait to read the rationalizations attempting to explain how doing that is OK whereas the dude that slaps an ///M badge on a 328 is a poser.

What strikes me as uber odd is the trend to have 4-door cars be odd number designations, and 2-door cars be even number designations. Then they mess all of that up by introducing the X4, X6, and 6 Series Gran Coupe'.
You could say 'sedan' vs. 'coupe', but the X4, X6, xnd 6 Series Gran Coupe'are not coupes... only by name. |

Just buy an M4, then go to the parts counter at the dealership, buy an M3 badge, replace the M4 logo on your trunk. Problem Solved.

Remove the badge and replace it with a M3. Problem solve.

Either way, that's something that can be debated for hours. There were very strong rumors that the E92 was going to be the first 4 Series. Are you guys telling me that would have stopped you from enjoying the glorious S65? I doubt it.

Did BMW registered the M4 trade mark some time this year?

This thread fails so hard.
M3, M4 whatever. The only reason anyone cares is because they're worried that when they try to impress people by saying they have an M4, no one is going to know what they're talking about. I got news for you... Most people don't even know what an M3 really is so boo frickin hoo. And to the guy who says it *might* still be called M3 coupe, using your logic it also *might* be called the banana boat. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. |

If anything, the coupe should have remained the M3 since its more popular with the M4 being given to the sedan. I'm just glad there's a M3/M4 sedan....I remember that being in doubt for awhile
But with that, there probably would have been lots of hoopla about the F30 being called a 4 series. |

The 3 series is the all time highest selling BMW and their most important car. Three (3) is a holy number.

Also note, they are segregating the chassis designation for the M cars from their series counterparts starting from the F30/F80 as well. Honestly, I don't really care, but I think the general issue with this is the sedan is keeping the M3 badge, but historically, it should belong to the coupe.
