520d vs 525d
Just a quick post to ask if anyone has taken the time to research what if any hardware differences there are between the 520d and 525d, presumably it's more than just a different engine map?

I'm pretty sure that the 525 is a twin turbo

If we are talking about the N series engines we have a single VNT/VGT turbo on the 520d and sequential bi-turbos on the 525d.
Turbo setups like comparing a 530d to a 535d. HighlandPete |

Thanks all, for some reason I was thinking that they both have twin scroll turbos.
The reason I asked is that I noticed both Hartge and Steinbauer are both quoting outputs comparable to a standard 525D from their tuning boxes. |

BMW's naming conventions or their terminology (twin scroll, twin turbo, etc...) does not really make it easy to understand any of this !

It's rather confusing in the tech spec: They use the term twin power turbo engine with variable turbine geometry for the 520d and twin power turbo engine and two-stage turbocharger with variable turbine geometry for the 525d... Not all that clear that it is two turbos so thanks again. |

Sorry. Just to clarify Pre-LCI 525/530d is single turbo like 325/330d. LCI 525/530d is twin turbos like 335d? (if twin turbo = sequential bi-turbos) Are they not n57 engines if you are referring 'N' to N57 engines?
