Anyone have the 328i with the M-Sport PKG?
I'd really like to buy the 335i, it's great and everything but I just cannot afford it, I think I'm going to get a 328i with the paddles with the M-sport pkg... Is that a stupid decision? I really want the 335 but it's just as I mentioned TOO pricey..
Who has a 328i w/m-sport pkg? What do you think? |

Yes, I've got a 2011 M-Sport 328. No, it's not as fast as a 335. No, it's not any less fun ( unless your fun occurs in straight lines for short distance).
I've got no regrets. It's 4 years old, and has had no repairs required since new. It's a great canyon carver, an excellent cruiser, and (most important) it's paid for. As many on here can attest, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. The 335 is a great car, but in this area of the country, full throttle in a 335 would be limited to 2-3 second bursts. More fun (maybe) for 2-3 seconds, but after that it's exactly the same as a well-equipped MSport. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. |

But I had the same feeling when driving M3s, and I do enjoy driving my car more than the M3. Would you say the same about the M3? |

It's not a stupid decision I have a 328. However, may I suggest just going down a model year or two to reduce the price of the 335. Unless an 07 is "too pricey" in which case you're SOL my friend. But seriously I think a 328 is plenty fun around the bends. But I'd take a manual. Also I don't know what msport is going to do to increase the fun factor but damn it looks good. If you like a 335 that much just make payments or go down a year.

I was driving my brother's 328 for a couple days last week. It is insane how slow that car feels after driving a 335

If your heart is set on a 335 then you'll regret getting a 328. I don't buy into the "slower cars are better" logic.

I have both a 335 and a 328. I would recommend driving them and making your decision. My wife's 2011 E90 328i sport package with 31K miles cost about 3K less than my 2009 E92 M Sport 335i with 34K miles so it's not that much different if you get a slightly older 335i. Also, her E90 has paddles and my E92 a 6MT... I don't care what anyone says, automatics are just boring AF to drive. If you are lazy and don't like driving or don't know how to drive a manual, autos are fine.

I think for me the big thing is the 6MT, was on the fence between two cars 335i and 328i both came with same exact options and almost the same price but the difference was that the 335i had very high mileage compared to the 328. I got lucky enough to find a sport package 328 with 6MT and navigation and all these other options I only saw in a 335.
They're good cars, test drive both and don't pull the trigger too fast. It's true we can't really drive that fast in the states. |

In retrospect another option I might have considered a higher mileage 335i with 3rd party warranty. Let them pay thousands of dollars in repairs. |

335 is a great car .. but so is 328.. it depends on your priorities, what you want, what future does your car holds up in your garage, how much you can afford in terms of maintenance, upgrades
They both cannot be compared in my opinion, but nonetheless they are awesome for what they are.. If you have a boy racer kinda attitude who want's to race every car down the road 328 may disappoint you,its a drivers car, even being not fast as 335 still capable to make you smile. I chose 328 over 335 only coz of insurance and also it was my first car, and yeah i dont drive over 80mph neither do i track or autocross so 328 power suffices me as someone said above, buying a car is different than owning a car .. think about it, if your heart wants you to go for 335i then go ahead but also remember about the maintenance costs Msport is a must.. I simply cannot stand the oem front bumper of an E90 LCI.. I had to do Msport conversion and it drastically changed the looks of my car and irrespective of any, get a manual (if you like to drive with 2 feet) .. its the best bet.. I was not able to find a manual 328 with desired options within 500 miles for 6 months and had to compromise on auto .. but everyday i drive the car in DS mode, its much better than auto.I also find the e90 sports steering wheel paddles bit odd .. i will upgrading to m3 steering wheel with tall dct paddle shifters soon All the best with your decision |

Well, in the end the 335i still costs more if you keep the car a long time. You have to walnut blast and change the spark plugs more often. Plus you will be having to pay the 2k about every 3 years when the warranty runs out for a new policy. So if you really think about over the course of 4-5 years the 335i would cost 4-5k more than the 328i. Even if the cost of the the car was exactly the same as a 328i.

Bro, how do those 328i things even walk mustangs from a 60 roll? Are they BMW 4 real?
Kidding aside, I think it's best to think of the E90 330i vs 335i as the E30 318is vs 325e; one loves to rev and weighs less up front, the other is very modifiable and quicker with more lb/ft than bhp while on the autobahn or road course they are pretty evenly matched. Only the E30 community generally seems to be far more mature about the whole affair because they can understand either car's virtues and don't need to factor in baller status and "mexico closed courses" even though there was a price difference when new. Two different driving experiences for two different types of drivers (although in either E90's case, it's generally from the work or shopping and back ) |

It was an absolute monster on a pull we did getting into a freeway. I'm completely convertered. My next car is without a doubt going to be a 335. A 328 m sport looks nice and yes is still fun to drive. But the 335 is a whole different level, and if we are talking tuned it can hang with literally any other car on the road. Lately the lack of torque in my car is a buzzkill since most driving now is long distance highway miles. Overtaking a car takes a century sometimes. OP there are 335's out there for as much as 328 msports. Get the 335. |
