A lot of that will rub out. I would do that before doing touch up.

damn yeah that's well into the clear coat and will need touch up paint. Get some compound on there or alcohol and see if the black will come out at all (you'll need to do that anyway to clean the surface before the paint anyway). If not it may be primer and definitely need touch up paint. No big deal.
I will say though, take your time with the touch up paint. Which one did you end up getting? With my paintscratch kit I cleaned the surface and applied the paint. Used a small piece of paper and my finger to smooth it out and made sure it's not lumpy. Then I let it cure for 24hrs. I used the rubbing compound to smooth it out even more then applied the clear coat. 24 hours later hit it with compound again then applied a very thin 2nd layer of clear coat on a wider area and thinning it out the further I got away from the scratch. 24 hours later I finished it with the compound and it literally looked like new. Good luck man |

I appreciate the help

I wouldn't ever let a drop of touch up paint touch my brand new f80 m3 I'm just too picky. If u want my opinion it's only a little character.

The area will need to be decontaminated via some sort of cleaner. I'd also try the rubbing compound to see if that black stuff will come out. If not it's definitely primer. But clean the area good and make sure there's no grit and grime that will block the paint from adhering properly. Personally, I doubt you'll need to use the base coat and you could just fill the area with paint. Try a say a 1cm spot and fill it all in with paint. See if the color matches from various angles. If it's too dark you'll need to cut it with just a bit of thinner. Personally, I think they should've included a brush with this specific kit but fill it all in with the paint and make it as even as possible. Let it cure for 24hours or so. Inspect it and then use the compound to make sure it's smooth. Dry it off and go over it with some alcohol again. Then apply the clear coat as evenly as possible. Let that cure for 24hours. Go back and use the compound and make sure it's SMOOTH. Then use your judgement on how much clear coat you would like to layer on it but make sure the further out you go the thinner it will need to be. Seriously though take your time. This is not something you can do in one night if you would like it to be properly done. |

Also the kit should come with a very thick piece of glossed hard stock paper. Use that first to test the color and make sure it's similar.
I should've specified earlier that if you do need to cut it with thinner do not do it on the car. Use that piece of paper they give you and mix up a batch then apply. |

I have used http://www.drcolorchip.com/ kit on my Moonstone E90 to hide chips and small scratches to a great success. On the weekend I order SS II to address small, but deep chip that was made last week on the door by a technician at the dealership. Probably mishandled a tool or something like that. They offered to fix it, but I prefer to do it myself.

I have a GTechniq Crystal Serum coating on the car, plus fresh EXO. When the CSR started talking about polishing the area out, I just got scared since I don't think the dealership is trained to detail cars that have ceramic coating application on. I don't even let them wash my car after service. So yes, I prefer to do it myself. This kit would not fix the chip per-say, but it should hide it just fine, because it would match color of the inside if the scratch with the color of the car. So the paintwork will be protected, scratch will be really hard to find, unless you are really close to the door. Or if you feel it with your finger. |

the kit is on the way, but i went to the dealership. they have a brand new, 2016, facility with cameras all around. the manager pulled up the video of me driving the car in, without a scratch. with my explanation, and showing him my car port (no place to get a straight line scratch) he took responsibility, and the dealership will fix it. i will drop it off next saturday! accidents happen, but really, its how a business handles it that matters. yay for bmw mainline service department
