My god the maybach version is awful looking. It’s like they slapped a bunch of random chrome trim pieces on it and the maybach badge and called it a day. No reason something like that will command the hefty price tag it probably comes with. The 63 is pretty nice, but again, for the extra price you pay, you’re probably spending an extra 40 grand on top of what a tilted out M50i would cost. I’m sure the alpina x7 would blow any of these away. I love Mercedes, but I really think they missed the mark on this new gls. I’m glad I didn’t wait and went the bmw.

On the contrary, I quite like the new GLS. I own both BMW and Mercedes so there is no preference for me.

I'll probably go with the 63 thought.

The 63 is hot. I would like to see other colors.

Like I said, I also like the 63 but as a whole the new gls has been pretty disappointing

I'm not disappointed. The new GLS has its pro and con, just like the X7. They are just different.

While neither car is really my style, I love the concept of the ultra-luxury 2nd row seat options shown in the Maybach. (about the 2:30 mark of the video) That's what I'm wanting for the X7. (and future X8) Even if it deletes the 3rd row of seats!

This is a forum to discuss things. I’m not debating which is the better vehicle. We all have our preferences. I simply said I was disappointed in the gls (I’ve owned one in the past that I liked), obviously people have different choices and styles, mine is different than yours obviously, but there’s nothing wrong with that lol. I didn’t tell you that you should be disappointed in it.

I also agree with wild. The more opulently appointed 2nd row def has a certain market.

I like the look of the new AMG GLS 63 (minus those wheels, yuk). The GLS 600 Maybach is interesting and there is definitely a market for such an SUV but if it MSRP's for the rumored $200K, that is way over priced. I love those wide retractable running boards.

A well equipped AMG GLS 63 will probably MSRP around $125K - $135K.

I’m pretty sure a well optioned gls580 is over 120 lol. I’m thinking a 63 will easily hit 150.

I've owned three GLS 550's, all fully loaded and our MY17 had a MSRP of $107K. I looked at several AMG MY18 AMG GLS 63's and they were $125K to $135K. BTW, you can build the GLS 450 right now and it is only slightly more expensive than the outgoing model.

The 2019 GLS63 starts at 126,150 (old model), a fully loaded 2019 GLS63 is around 145K. The 2021 model will probably start at around 130-132k and you can expect a fully loaded GLS63 to hit 155K or more.

Just FYI, the configurator for the 2020 GLS580 just came out. I played it and my spec came out to be $129,305.

The 63 has never worked in this car, imo. For me 580>>>

Interestingly the 580 is a better value, to me, than the x7m50 and the opposite is true for the 450 vs the 40i

just based on the way i'd spec them. going captains saves you some dough you would have spent on second row options.

I just specked out a 580 similar to our X7 50i and it came in at $110,000. Of course there are more options you can add that are pricey but this would be a common build for the GLS 580.

I actually like the monoblock wheels on the AMG......those wheels looked awesome back in the 90s on MB models. Seriously....one of the best looking OEM wheels of all time (the original silver ones).

EDIT: Looks like they put these same type of wheels on the new AMG GT, too.

Long time in Mercedes family owned 13' 450 and 17' 550. My 580 configuration was around 110k but the lease numbers were way more than X7 M50i. Assuming paltry discounts from Mercedes dealers with 0.00176 MF and 55% residual (36/12) just released the difference in monthly payments would be more than $500 per month. And M50i beats GLS 580 in performance by good numbers.

My 2017 GLS550 was a smooth freeway cruiser but not so great for a local drive. The transmission wasn't that smooth though it's a 9G.
