WTB: Manual 128i

Hey,

Trying to grab one of these, might have missed the boat. But hoping I can find a clean one for a DD/Track car. Like to spend under $10K, I'll be tracking it and don't need a unicorn(Though the slick top would be nice)

Willing to travel/ship it so pretty open to just about anywhere.

Any lead or info on one would be awesome.

Thanks!

I have a 2010 128i coupe, 6 speed manual, very few options, I might be willing to let it go. Yeah I have thought it would make a great track car, so much fun and a lot simpler than the 135. Mine is a DD, I'm the third owner, I've had it about 6 years. 156k miles IIRC. It has a few minor issues and a dent in the B pillar, but it is mechanically sound. I haven't thought about price but it would be under your $10k. Let me know if you're seriously interested.

Ok I'll take some photos this weekend and post them. I really hadn't thought of selling it until I saw this WTB post, so I'm not prepared.

Well that kinda worked.
What is the secret to posting photos here?
About that dent:
My son had his first snow accident a year ago, he was sitting at a stop sign when somebody slid into him. No injuries, no airbags, low speed. But the door was really f'd up, and the dent as you see behind the door. A tiny bit of damage ahead of the door.
So we replaced the door with a junkyard unit, fiddled with the hinges and striker til it fit right, and did not mess with the dent behind the door. I put some stick on foam in the doorjamb to quiet the wind noise. The door needs a firm push to close it but it closes right and latches right and lines up right as you can see. The little thing where the window goes up after you close the door works right.
Then I was learning to paint cars, I was spraying a silver VW, and I thought 'hey, it's almost the color of the BMW, why not do it, it'll be better than the dark blue door.' And so it is. The paint match is not perfect but at 20 / 20 it's OK. And you could certainly paint a better match over it.

As you can see the car has 183k miles on it, and it's my daily driver. I like the car a whole lot, I've had it for about six years, I could be ready for a change. I've maintained it well and replaced a lot of stuff before it broke because that's how I am. Koni SRT struts and shocks, recent brakes, crank sensor, starter, battery, most of the cooling system is new. All fluids changed.
Manual seats, no sunroof, no fancy audio. It does have heated seats and steering wheel, great in Michigan.
Speaking of Michigan I have the original silver wheels with snow tires on them, as well as the black wheels with summer tires that you see. And a donut spare in the trunk, I could not stand the run flats.

Thanks for posting man!

Damn, that dent is pretty solid. Have you got a quote on fixing it? Think that whole panel is replaceable on these cars? I'd want to fix it.

But the rest of the car looks good to me and it's a slicktop!

We got quotes from body shops for repairing the damage, they were about what I paid for the car pre covid. That's why I just replaced the door and moved on.
As I understand it, the part of the body behind the door is a non-removable part of the unibody structure. So in theory it could be cut out and replaced, or more likely pulled out and then finished with body putty. But in any case a big job.

My thoughts are:
- If you want a track car and don't mind the high miles, this is great. You could fix the dent less than perfectly and drive it all year.
- If you are in a position where your daily driver has to look good, like you are a realtor or something, then this is not the car for you. It would be expensive to make it really right.

Me, I don't care. Six cylinder NA, manual trans, so much fun. When I'm driving it I can't see the dent nor the tears in the seat.
