Given the huge difference between 6.29 and 2.99, it actually might be worthwhile canceling the order once the car arrives, and then take it off the lot. Even without dealer discounts, just the rate difference might make you come ahead!

That may be able to be done plus some dealers ignore the requirement/play with inventory in order to offer it. Should be no downside to the purchaser just to the dealer should they get caught during audit.

I was able to add it today so in my case it was 2 days after the f12 went to 150.

Yeah I’ve seen you say this a couple of times and I’m sure you’re right, especially since you’ve posted the fine print already. However, I did my deal through a broker and the dealership agreed to honor the 2.99 as long as the offer is still available when the car arrives. Maybe they’re just skirting the rules but I guess we’ll find out.

From BMW perspective, there’s no difference between a car already on the lot and a dealer allocation that will be produced and put on the lot. Even if there was no buyer, the dealer would still order the car. As long as the offer is available when the car is available for sale at the dealer (which happens when the car is in transit), there’s no issue in applying it. The only caveat is that the dealer may not give the car priority 1 (“Customer Sold”) which in turn may delay shipping.

Interesting. So once the car finishes quality control and is scheduled for shipping, I should be able to complete the paperwork and go through financing for the sale?

That would depend on your dealer, but most would actually make the car available on their inventory website and mark as “on the way to dealership.” They obviously can’t do the sale until the car arrives, but won’t hurt to ask to get the Financing moving.

We did PCD and closed the deal (paid and registered) shortly after it came off the assembly line and didn’t pick it up until a few weeks later. I’d have to imagine that could work with other orders as well.

Is there typically movement on the vehicle tracker prior to the actual production date or does it move on from 150 beginning on the production date?

It moves from production scheduled to "Production begins" which is 150 at around 2 weeks before the manufacturing week assigned to your chassis

As mentioned above, it will move to Production Begins about two weeks prior to your production week. This doe snot mean that assembly has begun but rather that a VIN has been assigned and parts ordered/allocated. At this time you can use the "F12" process to get your production date.

For vehicles built at Spartanburg you will rarely see the vehicle in the status between Production Begins and Entering Assembly line as those status are skipped.

Thanks for sharing this info as this is super helpful for a first-time BMW buyer like me. Checking MyBMW tonight, I see that my 2025 X7 M60i just flipped over to “Production Begins” and I now have a VIN .

What do I need to do to find the production date? Sorry for the noob question but I’m not sure what the “F12” process is…

Let me rephrase. When does it move from production begins to the next status (exterior body assembly, etc)? On the production date? Maybe this is obvious but it was my understanding that everything is completed BY the production date which made me wonder if they start work a day or so before that date or if they get everything done in a single day.

Production begins changes to the next step on production day. It takes a day to go through everything and be done.

As mentioned, you will not see the steps between Production Begins and Entering Assembly line. On your production day, or the night before, you will go to Entering the Assembly Line. Physically the body and paint work is done a few days before.

Does anyone know how long a car stays in the "Quality Check" status? My build date was 3/19 and the car has been sitting in QC since mid yesterday.

My dealer is saying the car will be in Colorado by early to mid next week but wondering how accurate that is. Trying to get it in before the finance special expires

Most will be in and out in a few hours but we have seen some stay for a week or more, it all depends on the issue. I would say the average stay of vehicles with an issue is 2-3 days.

The 2.99% financing rate is not available on ordered vehicles.

It only takes about three days once dispatched so not week is a possibility.

Some dealers have been known to play around with things in order to offer the special rate. You never know, it is worth asking.

My production date moved up to tomorrow (Saturday). Hopefully it's mostly robots working on the weekend instead of disgruntled humans who would rather be at home watching TV and drinking beer.

My "production date" on F12 was also on a Saturday. When I checked it in the actual database it was actually produced the day before on the Friday, so your car is being made today, congrats.
