This isn't an auction, it's a private sale. Of course a private sale is going to fetch a substantially higher price than an auction. Auction price applies to auctions and often to sales where the buyer is a dealer. Many dealers will also use auction price as a trade-in value. If I were you, I'd figure out the auction price, then figure out fair market value for a private sale, and then take the arithmetic mean of the two. I.e. 32k + 25k / 2 = 28.5, assuming those numbers are accurate, which they probably aren't. Your friend would be stupid to sell it to you at auction price. If you want to get a 335i at auction price, go to an auction.

It's cause it's not a sports car.

If you got an M3, you'd take the initial hit, and then the price would be very steady for a long while.

Just like corvettes, GTRs, Evo's... all reasonably priced sports cars keep their value after the initial hit.

For example, you can buy a used evo in stock form, and keep it stock. You'll lose about $2k a year on it.

I personally would have bought my 335 used if it was possible at the time (good luck finding 6MT with AWD, aged ~2 years, in a private sale).

that is too much by far. I bought my 07 6mt jetblack coupe with 24,000 miles under full warranty and paid 31k out the door. you should be looking for like 28/29k at MOST

That is a little high, considering the mileage. I bought my car a few months ago and it was appraised at almost $40k by my bank. No shit! I only paid closer to $31k (private party). It has the sports package, Steptronic AT and less than 14k on it when I bought, perfect condition! I was looking for months for the perfect one with low miles at a decent price. This was it and I couldn't be happier Unless it was Black Sapphire Metallic, then it would really be perfect.
