Apologies for mistaking youthful stupidity for a troll job.

Productivity tip #1, from my old shop teacher (you think I'm old....):
If you don't have time to do something right, you sure don't have time to do it over.

So don't buy used suspensions, unless you really know who they come from, and it really is from somebody who tried it and didn't like it. Ditto for things like brake pads, rear diffs, turbos, etc.

So do I, and it only takes a few seconds to open the box and take a look at the contents, especially when buying used.

You have to recognize that elements of this post do raise questions. Age is irrelevant with respect to what has been posted here. Many here are more than happy to help, but it is only natural for eyebrows to raise and red flags to wave when it appears that either someone is lying (not saying you are) or said someone refuses to recognize the error of their ways.

At 22 take some of the constructive criticism and advice from these old dudes as it may just help you avoid some of these costly mistakes in the future.

Erm while you're looking for a new set of Ohlins, u might want to also look for a new mech. That's a rear strut, not front. It's not 'slightly bent', it's broken in two.

If you look at the text from the mechanic, he tells the OP not to contact the seller or eBay. Why? Why wouldn't he suggest contacting them no matter what? What mechanic would try to keep the person from exhausting any possible remedies?

I think there's more to this story than what we see here. I don't see how an ebay seller with a near 100% rating over 184,000 items would try to pass off a snapped strut as being usable. He can't possibly know the buyer would wait two months before opening the package.

Thanks for posting that. But you didn't post the link to the auction, which is what I was asking you for. Currently there are sold/completed auctions for coilovers for the E92 M3 going back for several months, so we should be able to look at their eBay ad and check this out. Please post the auction link. If you can't figure out how to do that, then post the auction number. Us old guys will take it from there.

Thanks for posting this as well.

Your mechanic called a rear strut a front strut. Right now I can't be the only one wondering if he had a little mishap while handling your parts and he decided to blame the seller.

Were you there when he unpacked the parts that you should have inspected when you bought them?

Maybe learn how to type faster, that way you can be more productive at making yourself understood properly.

I'm wondering if the mechanic made the ebay purchase for the OP in the first place. I just don't see how that seller with their track record would try to pull a scam like this.

Typical millennial, blame their problems on everyone else but themselves!

If I was a betting person, I'd put my money on the OP handing the sealed box off to an unqualified wrench-turner for installation. Said wrench-turner *somehow* managed to get the rear shocks to mount up where the front struts go, and they buckled from overload and being too long the instant the wheels were put back on the pavement. I would further bet that the wrench-turner was using jack(s) and not a lift, because if they were standing under the car they would have noticed that the rear shocks looked just like what came out of the box. It's also interesting how the text from the mechanic said not to try and make a claim with fleaBay, because the package was opened.

Of course, what do I know? It's not like I have two real homologated race cars sitting in the hauler in our driveway, one of which that has rebuildable dampers that get overhauled every year. It's not like I've spent hours standing in front of a shock dyno seeking the holy grail of compression and rebound rates to both get around corners but also gain a few extra pounds of ground-effect downforce, raced in national competitions at a dozen tracks all over the country, or did any consulting work for other racing teams. No, I'm just some wannabe driver who spent $1800 for the cheaper half of a used suspension setup that sells for $2850 with all four corners brand new, thinking that it would make me 20 seconds faster around the new track configuration at Lime Rock Park just like on my xbox.

Since the OP has not provided a link to the fleaBay auction, I suspect that these were listed as parts units that needed to be rebuilt and he didn't have time to read those words in the listing either. Seen it happen before, and there's no way that a business with 15 years of history on eBay is going to risk their reputation and state dismantler license by selling obviously-damaged merchandise and representing it as functional.

This is what the E9x M3 struts are supposed to look like, with the front one on the top in the picture:

As a workaround, I suggest a piece of threaded rod and a female threaded spherical heim joint to support the car while you roll it onto a flatbed and have it taken to a competent shop.....

well it looks like that ebay'rs location is fairly new to them
https://property.compstak.com/4350-W...oenix/p/839043
ebay says they've been a member since 2007. So it's taken a good amount of time to grow.

But this is where it gets really strange.
So the address come up to: https://yellow.place/en/lambrecht-auto-phoenix-az-usa , https://www.behance.net/gallery/8783...nd-replacement
But it does not seem to be a real company/service. All I can find are these marketing style pages.
And when I follow the website it goes to what I expected, nothing that a glass company site should go to: https://web.archive.org/web/20140501...utoauction.com

The timeline of the wayback and the building of this warehouse don't match up. And there was no building in that location prior to the building of that warehouse per google earth.

What I was looking for with the ebay'r is a name change, a address change or the like. I know there is an address change sometime in the last 2 years simply from their current lease. But I can't find anything. And far as any name change, struck out there as well.

Something is a bit off in all of this far as I'm concerned.

Well you kind of went down a rabbit hole there. Searching the address took you to a possibly phony glass installer who took their name from a private collection of cars that were auctioned off 6 years ago. Instead of searching through the address, try the name and you'll get to these guys pretty quickly:

http://www.azcycleparts.com/home.html

They appear legit, though its a little odd that the Maps satellite photo appears to be taken the same day as the photo on the AZ home page, down to the empty parking lot and the single long box in the middle of their dock space. Maybe they hadn't moved in before then. Or.... ?
