Definitely the "O" ring on the filter. Someone slacked off on the 1200 mile service.

Did they clean it up or just change it?

Both....they replaced it and then cleaned up any small oil puddles/splashes.
No big deal and all is right as rain. It was never a large leak to begin with, just something you would notice when you opened the hood if you looked closely.

The hose connection in the upper left of the picture is (appears) not fully connected. The tech may have reconnected when fixing your oil leak. Might be worth checking.
The hose is not related to the oil Leak issue. This is the hose for the "Charge Air Expansion Tank" #5 in the diagram. Last edited by kenwelch; 10-24-2015 at 04:08 PM.. Reason: added description of location and diagram |

If this is leaking, however, it's not just a matter of re-connecting the hose is it? What about any fluid leak?

Incidentally, I sent close up photos of the charge expansion hose to my SA who then had one of the M techs at my dealership look closely at it.
From the photos he said it doesn't seem like there's a problem. If there was a coolant leak, even the slightest slow leak, there would be a crusty residue at the spot, which he says there isn't. I'm going to keep an eye on it......

It does, actually.....I was going to ask someone else with the S55 to comment or show a pic, if possible.
Might just be the way it fits..... This forum is great, and I absolutely appreciate the above poster for his observation and comment, but lol, i've now been watching my engine compartment obsessively and wondering if I can feel any hp loss I would have blindly gone along not even knowing...... But I would have rather he mentioned something, than not at all. I'm sure my SA thinks i'm nuts however.

I bet that your SA (who might be the same as mine) can easily tell if a customer is a forum member just by the questions he or she asks.

I'm not a difficult customer (or so they've told me... comparatively speaking), but being a forum member really does make you more "particular" about things on our car, that's for sure When my ED thread made the front page a few months back, my CA (Scott) was the first to email me to let me know....lol Yup, not bad for a "mostly" weekend car, right? I've taken it on multiple trips to Boston, CT and to and from Toronto, ONT....amazing how quickly that will add up the miles.

Glad you had this checked....even I feel better. Now I'm feeling a bit sorry for adding to you're "auto paranoia" . As an automotive teacher for 40+ years, that connection looked like a problem. Sorry for the false alarm.
I'm not sure if there is any type coolant level warning light for the Charge Air cooling system. I will see what I can locate for technical info. Last edited by kenwelch; 10-29-2015 at 09:56 PM.. |
