smells like BS from your SA. i would bring it to another dealer if they refused to cover it under warranty.

This is exactly what is happening to my VW Passat. However, mine is 5 years old. I don't use hand lotion or sun screen so whatever dealer said this is the cause is wrong ! I think it dries out and lifts

I'm going to ask the dealership to replace the steering wheel piece with the 2007 piece which has the silver trim. I'm sure it's no coincidence that BMW put a metal trim exactly where the plastic is peeling. It peeled in the same place the last time... I can't find the price of the 2007 piece on realoem. any one have it?

the part number for the 2006 piece is 32306767211
The part number for the 2007 piece is 32306776646

Here are a few pictures of the trim...

Thats crap, as long as the car still under warranty, they will replace it as many times
as it fails. Be wary of dealers that sling this type of crap.

That's good that your dealer replaced the plastic trim for you under warranty because I would think that is due to normal wear and tear. But great job on getting it replaced!

I'm using the search like I'm supposed to...

Anyone know if this problem has been resolved? Will BMW cover this under warranty?

It will be covered under New Car warranty as was stated in the thread. each part installed has it's own 1 year warranty from install date. So get your studd repalced at the end of the new car warranty and then every year after that

Just Replaced Today

Its funny seeing this today. I just got my car back for an unrelated issue, but when I dropped it off, I mentioned that my steering wheel was peeling (the actaul wheel - not the trim). Last week, as I was getting in the car, my finger nail must have caught the steering wheel just right and a huge chunk got stuck under my nail. Anyway, they replaced it for free - it seemed to be no big deal. A couple of months ago, I did get the steering wheel trim replaced because it was peeling. No peeling on the doors though - knock on wood.

I guess it must be a real common issue.

Good use of search.

Yes, it has been resolved. The pieces are no longer black or gray plastic coated with rubbery paint in your interior color. Now they are plastic molded in the interior color, so there is no paint to peel. This solves the problem, but the result is the pieces are not as "soft touch" as they used to be. Not a big deal.

The trim peeling is covered under warranty and there is a SIB for it.
