How optimistic are you (new owners/orderers) about having a first yr model m3/4?
I plan to order possibly in January or Feb and clearly that would still be 2015 model year.....I've never purchased a car on its first yr model year and was curious as to if any of you were worried or have even put it off for a year til next summer to order....

Nope, not at all. I had a first year E9X, and the only problem it had was a malfunctioning EDC module on the passenger side shock tower and a noisy rear diff - when making hard turns - that needed the new spec oil. Quick fix........no other issues. I had a third year E46 that blew up (..as previously mentioned). You can never truly avoid an issue simply by avoiding a first model year. There's always something that somebody will experience. With that said, if saving money is a priority, avoiding a first year model is suggested. The lease rates are worse, the APR's - at least from BMW - are worse, mark-ups, an unwillingness to negotiate below MSRP, etc. It is a veritable certainty that somebody will buy a comparably spec'd MY16/MY17 for less than somebody paid for their 2015.

I'm pretty optimistic. There's really very few unique parts that are going to fail/be problematic in my opinion (i.e. electronic or mechanical).
The S55 is the big question mark. After that, I'm not touching the DCT and the 6mt is a proven unit here. The diff is a proven unit. And most of the electronics already exist. Let me put this another way: I'm going to plan to go into the shop once for something related to a first year model. I'll get a loaner and get to enjoy some eye candy while i'm in there. Maybe I'll try to get a special loaner of some sort for fun. No big deal - as long as it's once. |

The 3 issues I've read about recently (hood not latching right, hose coming loose from inter cooler, DCT screwing up and leaving someone stranded, constantly going into neutral for another guy) don't exactly inspire confidence. Yes, warranty. But my time is very valuable, and I don't want to spend it at the dealership or driving too and from the dealership with various loaners. I would say keep an eye on this forum to help you make an informed decision. If many more issues surface I will probably not buy my M4. |

True that the Lexus RC F comes out this Fall and has a V8, Cf roof/hood/spoiler, and an awesome interior with a great color palette to choose from. Will it drive as nice as a M4? Probably not. But hey if you haven't already ordered you might as well wait and see

Not my DD, so not worried. Not expecting problems and won't be happy if I have them, but it's not enough to make me wait.
Somebody needs to go first. |

I wouldn't sweat potential issues, the warranty has that covered and who knows, maybe the 1st year model will be as solid as the remaining.
Personally, I'm waiting a few years to see what the M Division has up their sleeves for the f8x down the road...I'd also like to check out the M2 before I make any moves. This is easy for me to say, sitting nicely with my current M3. |

Trust me, I'll be the pilot project for the F8X series. I'm gonna drive the shit out of mine everyday. That way if there are any bugs, glitches, issues, or other maladies, they will be addressed within the first year of ownership.
If I have to have a loaner for a few days, who give a rats ass? I'll just look forward to getting my M4 back and continue driving the shit out of it. |

I wouldn't worry too much about "first year" models guys. The car has warranty. What's the worst that can happen? BMW is great at repairing their cars and making them like new. They have great support and customer service when it comes to maintenance.
My car has been perfectly fine, absolutely no issues and I'm an extreme case of OCD when it comes to cars |

'07 M3s were a POS compared to final product. DCT, new bearings, LCI, etc.
But it's not something that would keep me from getting a first year model, you just gotta lease that shit. Leasing is the only way to go anymore, especially for a turbo motor, since cars are designed to be disposable gadgets like iPhones these days. |

Didn't give it a second thought. As others have said, that's what the warranty is for.
That being said, I would very well consider getting AAA, given experiences with BMW Assist (which I have never had to use). I do get free roadside assistance through my Amex Plat card, but I have no idea if it is any good since I have never had to use it either.
