New Zealand launch
Got my invite to the local launch at our nearest racetrack on July 20....they are calling it the Power Experience, have instructors etc and lots of other M cars for driving too. I may wet myself with excitement before then.
Hoping but not expecting for a 6MT. They aren't bringing any in with CCB which is disappointing, but very little take up here. Chances are it will be wet and cold, also very interested to see how the PSS go. |

The event was held on Sunday, I got to drive the 135, M235, 435GC, M3, M4, M5 and M6 back-to-back on track then road.
This won't be a lengthy M3/4 review, just some brief observations. 1. BMW is churning out some seriously fantastic cars, they were all excellent to drive 2. Biggest surprise for me: how much better the M4 looks in the flesh compared to photos, I now want the M4 not the M3, but of course kids dictate the decision somewhat. 3. Second biggest surprise: how fantastic the M5 and M6 are...yeh you could feel their weight on the track but the way they pile on speed, sheesh, and the way they cosset you on the open road...and that understated but full-of-intent V8.....I've always loved storming super saloons, now I yearn for one, and no longer an E63. Long-range cruiser or DD, winner by miles 4. Third biggest surprise, apart from lacking outright //M presence and ultimate performance, the M235i really is a stonking performer and handler. Bang for your buck winner by miles. If it is a bit lighter and smaller the M2 is going to be a massive sales eroder of M4's (in my humble opinion) 5. The M3/4 - well the biggest thing that resonated with me was the grip levels on the open road. High enough on our twisting, low-quality country roads on a cold day to get serious spikes of adrenaline and make me shake my head in amazement. 6. M3/4: - great seats - interior is slightly-claustrophobic in full-black - DCT is fantastic and aggressive (made me wonder about its longevity) - the cars give a nice feeling of 'chomping-at-the-bit' in the comfort modes - brakes are great...really great. Not sure how the aftermarket is going to sell BBK's except to the ultimate track-goers/show-boaters - sound is all from the exhaust except on the downshift (I quite liked the sound overall but I've never been precious about sound) - can't tell the sound is through the speakers - interior is very nice, and in the understated BMW way - exterior looks better in the flesh. AY and YMB way better in the flesh, though I wouldn't live with AY - M4 MW owners - great choice - Michelin PSS - wow. Goodbye ContiSport 5 next time round 7. 435GC - anyone who questions why they make the GC in any of the segments....seriously good looking car |
