Cloth interior vs. car seat

I thought ya'll might be interested in this.

For the past week, I have strapped down incredibly hard a graco car seat that for the life of me I couldn't get to sit flat on the seat front-facing. I'm actually looking at other car seats because the angle of it doesn't appear right.

So, until then, I've had my car seat installed where the front "L shaped" edges were very aggressively pushing into the seat so that it was as secure as possible. One full week's worth of this abuse, here's how it looked right after I removed the seat:

Small indentation, faded in about an hour.

I think this interior will hold up great to abusive car seats

I don't have kids so I don't know the first about this, but would it be possible to put a towel or something down between the seats?

You need something like this...

http://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-27301...seat+protector

Edit: It won't help your angle issue, but it should protect the seat.

They make car seat mats that would help as well.

When I got my E46, I definitely added a thick towel to protect the seat. It also helped soak up those unintentional spills by the occupant.

Yep, I'm going to be using a seat protector and drape something from the front seat to protect the seat back from little feet (so far the rule has been no shoes in daddy's 'W'), but you can't enforce that rule come winter

This car seat was not properly sitting - the base should sit flush across the face of the seat, allowing an even weight distribution and "squeeze" into the seat. I couldn't achieve that.

My wife's e60 has that and I just today took it off, cleaned off the leather, put some conditioner on it (even though it's sealed leather, can't help myself)....the base looks perfect. The seatback needs some protection though.

This one works well. The material is a little stiffer, and it has a seatback protector.

I have had these since 2007. They are AWESOME. They disburse the pressure from the seat base so the indentations aren't so deep and narrow, allowing them to return to shape quickly. Had them in my MDX for 5 years and the indentation was gone within days.

I have this one in my S4 and it works well. My wife has this one and another one in her Denali which works even better. I'll find the name and share when I get home later. I had to remove the rear headrest in my S4 in order for the seat to position correctly; I'm assuming you're having this issue because the headrest on your ///M isn't removable... I'll likely run into the same issue, but our youngest doesn't spend much time in my car and the booster seats which she'll soon be using seem to fit better.

Correct, the headrest forces my particular car seat forward to the point the rearmost point of the base is a solid ~2-3" above the surface of the f80 seat.

This is a graco unit. I'm going to try it with the radian diono xt too.

I would have no concerns with a rear facing seat nor with a infant car seat base & removable car seat. It is only with forward facing where the seat hits the headrest. It's either gotta somehow sit flush with the seat back (possible) or extend over the fixed head rest (unlikely?)

Like others have said you need the seat mat. But if you're going to drive your kids around in an M car, you should put the kids into some Recaros. They are no more expensive than any of the other major brands and are built very well.

I've used the lionheart mat, and it does work well for infant carriers but the back is not tall enough for larger seats (Britax marathon, diono radian, etc..)
I've since purchased several of the elite duomats and they are better for taller child seats:

These were most palatable booster seats I could find:

Yes, that is indeed a downfall to the Lionheart ones. One thing I noted was that most seats do not make contact with the car's seat the whole length. I've only had an issue with my daughter's newest Britax Frontier 90. The other seats worked fine with the Lionheart protector.

hey Joe,

have you found a seat that works well? i was looking at the Recaro Performance Ride and Pro Ride but it looks enormous and several people complain of an inability to properly secure it which i'm worried about with our fixed headrests. I do want a Recaro (because race car!!!). we have been using a Chicco NextFit and i'm not in love with it … but maybe it's just because it's a carseat. the worst thing about this one is it seems to really absorb stuff which is no bueno. moving it back and forth from the X3 to the car got old really fast so it's time to buy a second one .. just not sure which to get.

photos would be awesome if you have the time.

thanks, hope you found a winner!

matt

Hey there,

Nope, not yet. Just had a newborn come into the world and havent had the free time I remember having just a few weeks ago

I will add that I recently took my kids car seat out after 1 month of being in there with only a towel to protect the seat....and the seat looked brand new in about 4 hours. The carbonstructure is not holding indentations.
