Happens all the time! But nothing exclusive about our cars. They are mass produced vehicles, just not many on the roads so far. Will be everywhere sooner or later, just like the E9x's are.

I dont think they will be everywhere based on previous production numbers:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/attachm...5&d=1376330183 Over a 4 year run, there were 25,000 produced in US & Canada. That's less than 500 per state over the course of 4 years (again, this is including US & Canada, so there are far less than 500 per state in aggregate of the previous M3 models). Even with the poor economy in 2008 and 2009, I don't see BMW doubling the production of these cars over the total run. Assuming this, there's probably about 100 of these cars added to each state per year if we assume equal distribution (not likely as there will be more in Cali and texas, but good enough for a production estimate). Anyone want to venture how many total of these M3s and M4s will be sold during the production run? i already made a previous thread on this, but wonder if people will deviate from their initial guesstimates. |

I'd say you're a lot more likely to get attention with an AY/SO/YMB car than with the other colors.

Maybe I'm biased, but a color specific to the M brand was the deciding factor for me.

The one thing that I really like about M cars is that since they are based on the "standard" series cars, they blend in more and are mostly noticed by enthusiasts and gearheads. I've had a few people ogling my car, and even once a guy in a GT-R drove past me with his hand sticking of his window with a thumbs up in the air.... but in general I don't think the majority of people really give a crap. Maybe AY or YMB would make it stick out more... but that's not something I really want.

I get a lot of people noticing the wheels first, then Trying to figure out what it is (I have a MG M4 with the 19" dark rims). That said, I am surprised by the number of people that know what an M4 is. I have had lots of BMW, Porsche or other sports car driver give me the thumbs up in traffic, and have come out of a store to see a crowd standing around the car on a number of occasions. Where I live, BMWs, Porsches, etc. are a dime a dozen (Miami), so to see so much attention to an M4 is really surprising.

It really depends on where you live. They won't be as exclusive anywhere as, say, an Aston Martin. But, in many parts of the country, you will still be one of the few out and about on a regular basis. I still have yet to see an M4 in the flesh here. Very few 4 series in general for that matter.

3 SO M4s out of how many million cars in the Bay Area? Yep, not very exclusive.

A M3/4 will attract viewers even if there were plenty around simply because they are M's and are not attainable for the average person.
My current car is a '07 Saturn Sky Redline, of which they made maybe 15K of them (redline versions) across the 3 production years before GM shut down the brand. Even 7+yrs later i still get complimented on it and it's very rare for me to see another Sky on the road. Like Racedoc said, the SKy is only exclusive to me as the owner. |

According to Sir Loin's latest survey data, only 11 of 167 F8X cars were SO which is only 6.5%. That's pretty exclusive for F8X.

Been driving my M3 about a month now. Got a thumbs up from a kid in a range rover. That's it no more attention then my 535i.
I do think a coupe attracts more attention than a 4 door though. But in San Diego you see real exclusive cars everyday Ferrari, lambo, high end Maserati etc. the m3, m4 are 65-80k cars. Hardly exclusive when 3 bed 2 bath can home fetch a million here. |

Honestly, the idea of exclusivity is a relative one. If your DD is a Toyota Yaris, you might find consider a 2009 Mercedes C200 to be pretty exclusive. If you are that Mercedes driver, you're a lot more likely to notice all the other Mercedes drivers on the road and not consider your own car to be exclusive, but might find a brand new BMW M4 to be fairly exclusive. If you own an M4, you likely think the Ferrari 458 is an exclusive car. But ask any Ferrari owner in Monte Carlo how exclusive their car is, and they're probably thinking "yeah, some day I'll own that McLaren P1/F1".
Don't be fooled - the M is a pretty exclusive car from the standpoint of the general populace. We're just a slightly spoiled bunch here. Also, let's not confuse exclusivity with 'attention getting'. There are plenty of non-exclusive cars that grab attention on the street.
