warranty brake disk resurface/replacement

anyone get new rotors or a resurface covered under warranty?
My front disks are becoming heavily grooved, causing thumping noises when coming to a stop

It is easy and cheap enough to remove them my self and get them re-surfaced, and I do not want to wait a month for the next available appointment if they will simply tell me I have to pay.

I understand wear and tear items like brakes are not covered in Canada, though at 48k km for grooved rotors, I suspect warranty consideration may be different.

Anyone have experience with this?
