CLK63 AMG Black Series
http://www.mercedes-amg.com/webspeci...63blackseries/
My M3 lease is coming up in about 8 months and I have to decide whether to buy it off lease, or turn it in sell the S/C, exhaust, brakes, etc for fractions of what I paid and then lease or buy another car. But...there is nothing new out there that excites me as much as my M3 the way I have it built. Also, it's the perfect size to fit everything I need it to. There are some older gen cars that I could be happy with including the Mercedes CLK63 Black Series. It made 5 years ago for only one year in limited production...wide body with 500 HP with a 7-speed auto w/ steering wheel paddle shifter...lots of carbon fiber bits. I haven't test drove one because they are rare but I'm going to give it a shot to see how I like it. Curious if anyone has had long-term experience with one, particularly as a daily driver. Thx.

nothing new excites you like the M3? thats my life story LOL.
Ya man thats a sick car. although the one thing about Benz i really dont like is the tranny. not sure if i could go from a DCT to that. Although going from a DCT to a 6 speed wont be a problem. |

I think the black series would be an awesome car, but I don't think that feeling would last as long as your M3. That transmission is enough to even scare me away from ever purchasing one to be honest. Our DCT (as you know) is perfect for the M3 and gets even better with a blower on it.
Is there anything else that you could do too your M3 outside of a stroker + SC build that would keep your interest? love your car and videos by the way, it's what pushed me to SC my car

got damn it Adam, when will you ever stop...? hhaha im just kidding brotha! those black series are sick... I love the way it looks but like everyone said, the transmission on that car is not up to par for your expectations... you have 2 of the best double-clutch transmission in the market, I feel like youll be very disappointed by the way that transmission performs... especially the driving that you do!

I don't like the looks of the C63 black. Plus the premium over a regular C63 makes no sense to me. The CLK on the other hand is very unique! Quote:

Wow everyone mentions the trans but how bad can it be? 7-speed paddle shifter should be ok. It at least has to be as good as the 8-speed ZF auto in my X5....right? I'll report back on the trans shortly!

Will do. One thing to note...I will not be racing this car on the track/airstrip. It will be my daily driver and so shift speed can be sacrificed. I do want some connected-ness with the car and I will be interested in paddle-shifter response.

Ya i feel you. I heard the AMG transmissions are simply not as dynamic feeling. I also heard one of the problems with AMG transmissions isnt the hardware, but rather the software. at least thast what the problem with the current C63.

I wasn't a big fan of the transmission but could easily live with it. It isn't THAT bad and is still better than the SMGs. The power and torque for daily driving is phenomenal.
When I drove my buddies (renntech exaust, headers, and tune I believe), I did not feel like I was connected to the road. The steering just felt false to me. Could have been his tires too as he didn't have proper sticky tires on for some reason. Obviously you will draw your own conclusions when you get behind the wheel on Thursday. All in all, I liked the car and it definitely has a presence about it. |

About the time your lease is up you can pick up a 2013 Viper in the mid 60k range to about mid 70's. It's amazing car....even at 100k.
The interior is amazing , handling has unearthly grip (285f 355's rear) and so much tq. Lets not forget the sweet goodness of all natural 640hp, 600lb-ft of tq and with minor bolt-ons (tune, filter, cat-back) you will be over 600rwhp. The twin disk clutch and tight shifter make rowing gears fun. The tall gearing means only 3 shifts from 0-150mph. You will also get about the same mpg as a e92 M3. :-) When 600rwhp isn't enough and you want more TT kits on 93 pump gas are pushing 1100rwhp ON 93 pump gas with only 10-12psi....e85 and 16-17 psi is making 1500rwhp. The motor is fully forged from the factory and has taken everything that has been thrown at them so far. Edit: 2013 is the 1st year with TC, Stability control and yes...LC (just push 1 button on the wheel. Last edited by Disturbed; 11-27-2014 at 09:39 AM.. |

I considered moving to a CLK63 Black Series from the E46 M3 I had about two years ago but ultimately decided against it after a test drive. The car felt similar to the M3 but more capable in just about every way with the exception of the transmission. The power, sound, and cornering were all great but the interior/exterior styling felt dated as did the transmission. It is clearly a great and fairly rare car but I decided to go with an E90 M3 instead.

Totally forgot to update this thread.
I test drove the CLK BS car back in November 2014 and it was hopelessly boring. Heavy and slow. Not nimble at all and the trans was worse than what I even imagined.
