Former lurker. Now member.
What's up ya'll, I've been creeping on these forums for a while, but never joined. I'm 34 years old, live in South Carolina, of the U.S. Just wanted to intruduce myself. I bought my first BMW this month, but was hooked about 3 years ago when I attended the BMW M Driving experience in Greer, SC near the facility that makes the X3's. One of the instructors said that 33% of the people that participate in the BMW M experience that had no intention before to buy a BMW, buy one within 3 years. You can count me in that 33%! The M3 had me after the first lap. They are smart for running that M experience course.
I work in IT Security, also love motorycles (Ducati), backpacking, mountainbiking, outdoors in general. I'm probably going to be posting some newb questions around so be easy on me!

Thanks ya'll. It's a DCT, with Premium and Tech package. I do have some questions. I'm the third owner of the vehicle and it has 34,600 miles. At 18k it was certified pre-owned by BMW for the previous owner. Sorry if these questions are completely dumb, but I just drove about 300 miles in the car over the past couple days to get the feel of things, if you know what I mean.
1. I've read in another thread that sound coming from the DCT is normal, since it's high peformance. On each downshift I hear a little "cla-click". It's not really a pinging or sloshing, more like someone slamming it into gear if it was a manual stick. I don't remember this when I drove them at the M experience, but maybe I was just too excited to notice at the time. 2. After some hard driving (say a full blast onto the highway from the on ramp) I smell a slight fragrance of either hot oil or clutch/tranny fluid. Is that pretty normal? 3. The downshift from 3 to 2 when in auto-mode are pretty rough. Again is that normal? or a sign of abuse? 4. Ok last question. I've noticed sometimes that throttle blip happens, and then sometimes in the exact same situation it doesn't. Is there some trigger that determines whether the engine will revmatch? It seems if I downshift twice quickly from 5th gear at about 40 mph or greater I'll get a blip and be sitting nicely in 3rd. Othertimes I'm trying for this and I get engine breaking instead, it's weird. Maybe I'm overthinking it. Thanks for any input. Been reading about rod bearings, oil mineral contents, octane ratings, 0w40 vs 10w60, all that jazz for a while now, but sometimes it's just nice to hear from other drivers on what to expect as far as little querks. I attached a couple pics
