Used 2014 M5 vs Used 2014 CLS 63 AMG

Hello guys,

As the title states, my lease is almost up and am considering between these two options. (I'm also considering leasing a new 2015 M5 with pull ahead program but will rule this option out for this post..)

I do have a 2014 911 S as a weekend car so this new purchase will be a daily driver.

It seems like the used 2014 CLS 63 that has about similar miles (~10k) as used 2014 M5 is bit higher in price.(Both high 70k~ low 80k range)

Which option would you prefer? Why?

Thanks in advance!

Just on looks a lone the CLS would be my choice. I believe the performance is very similar. The CLS63 is a sexy looking car.

On an M5 forum, you're bound to get biased answers lol. I've driven the CLS 63 and liked it quite a bit. The chassis is a bit floaty for me and the rear headroom is barely tolerable, but great ride. Power wise, they are about even. M5 walks it in the triple digits, at least when I raced one.

I always compared the M5 to the E63, and the M6 Gran Coupe to the CLS63. You'll find a little more luxury, style, and traction (AMG-S variant) with the CLS, but you'll encounter more sportiness, improved shifting (an actual DCT vs MB's MCT), and more of a driver's experience with the M5.

Drive them both - there are tons of options in a 90 mile radius...

Thanks for your opinions guys! I really appreciate it.

I did actually look into the AMG-S 4matic models too. However, they were about ~10k more expensive than the M5 (non-comp) while the non-S models were ~5k higher in price.
I wanted to compare both cars with as similar options as possible and get opinions from you guys. Also, I wasn't sure if the extra ~5k was worth the S and 4matic option because it will be my DD and I already have 911 S for weekend driving.

I have only test driven used 2012 CLS 63 few days ago but have never driven the M5.

Although it is not a crucial deciding factor, I would also prefer one that depreciates slower than the other. (I plan on keeping it for about 3 years with around 10k miles/yr)

Thanks!

I bet they depreciate similarly but M5 lease deals are fairly excellent right now (likely were better before the new year). I can't comment on the ride of the CLS because it was never an option for me given that I wanted three rear seats in case that matters to you op.
