Bumper damage

So I was attempting to park my car yesterday and I managed to muff up my front bumper. It was on an incline and the parking spot was a bit icy so I managed to meet the curb more than I would have liked to. I'm staying positive cause if that curb didn't have snow in front of it to make a little ramp, it would have ate my bumper.

I'm not sure what has been damaged underneath but it scrapes on speed bumps. Any ideas on what my options are in fixing the front bumper cosmetically?

a good shop should be able to take it off, re-align whatever popped out underneath,( or replace whatever plastic junk is broken) heat the bumper and mold it back correctly. That one angle on the bumper may not be 100% though. Maybe about 95%. BUT, it's low, and the color is light, so it won't show that bad.

Don't let anyone dupe you into getting a new bumper, you do not need it.
Unless you want it to be 110% perfect. Pm me if you have any other specific paint/body work related questions.

Look man. You need a new bumper. Idk what that guys talking about lol. The corners of the main opening part of the bumper will never be perfect.

I had mine removed, repainted last year, cost me $1500. Great job, certified bmw body shop.

Wasn't near as bad as this though, very minor scuff just in front of wheel, paint was gone through to black plastic underneath.

Op, those pics make me cringe. I would replace the bumper.

Did the tow cover pop out, or was it gone before?

Got quoted $1,200 for front and rear bumper repair and repaint, but your damage is much worse than mine. Try searching the internet for a used one. If you're lucky you can find a good condition one for less than $500. But if you buy a new one it's gonna cost you ~$1,000

Brand new bumper covers are less than $500, and surely it's not $1,000 to get it painted. How'd you end up paying $1,500?

He got suckered ///M

Listen man, as I say before and i will say again……..average cost for ANY panel on a car to repair/ paint with minor damage is $350. Upwards of that depends on the cost of the paint. Of course you drive a BMW with an M badge on it and most car repairman interpret the M to mean MONEY (for them)

They know most M car owners will not want to have their cars in bad condition, so they quote you some ridiculous price and if you pay it they cash in.

Your best bet is to ALWAYS make friends with repair shops etc before you ned one, or make sure you have a friend who is a friend of one, otherwise the vultures come out when the M badge flashes…..

Time to add a European Front Bumper? Looks like it would run you $1,673 from iND: http://ind-distribution.com/ind/cate...n-front-bumper

Whatever you decide, just make sure you do your research on the shop that does the repairs. When it comes to paint, I've always believed, you get what you pay for. Too many horror stories out there from people who thought they were getting a deal or tried to cut corners.

I agree with this assessment. That bumper is much more messed up than a simple scratch.

Are you referring to the Undercarriage protector? If so, that can be had for much cheaper than $400.

Not sure if this would qualify as an insurance claim under your comprehensive coverage, but I hit a raccoon a couple months back. Cracked my bumper, cracked my front lip, and broke my undercarriage. $100 deductible and I got a new bumper, reflectors shaved, freshly painted, new undercarriage, new front lip, and labor included.

You'd need to replace the plastic undertray pieces under the bumper, either replace the front bumper cover or mold it back and repaint it. At least $1500+ worth of damage.

If you have comprehensive insurance coverage, you should just use that and pay the deductable.

Thanks everyone for their input I appreciate it.

So I currently have Geico with an "exceptional" record as they so nicely put it. Their estimates came out to a total of 1,201.92 to replace the front bumper with a "reconditioned" one. They didn't estimate the undercarriage damage as thye needed a lift to inspect it. After my $500 deductible I would be receiving $701.92.

Since I have a $500 deductible I will try to fix everything for ~$500 through a friend's shop. This would pf course only be accomplished by buffing out the damages.

I will post pictures of the completed job whichever route I take for everyone's future reference in the future (I hope not ).

I guarantee that will not "buff out". The urethane bumper is deformed, you need a new undertray and a repaint of the bumper at the least. It's over $500 just in replacement parts not including labor and paint.
