Any potential issues at the dealer after changing some options with coding?
I'm a newbie when it comes to coding. Came from an E46 M3 to the M4. I would like to take full advantage of my LED lights and change other stuff in the car through coding.
My dealer is a PITA to deal with when it comes to warranty claims. Will making option changes through coding give them an excuse to refuse warranty claims even if the options are things that BMW make available on other markets? The last thing that I need is to have to fight them on a burnt LED headlight because I changed the default functionality to the full potential developed by BMW... Any inputs will be highly appreciated! |

I recommend you don't change the brightness of the LED even though the heat doesn't really change because LED's don't really get hot, that's why televisions are switching to them. Anyway I would just FA code the Headlights to have Euro Spec and make the Auto High Beams come on by themselves. I changed my FA and brought my car into service afterwards and no complaints from the service department!

I can't believe that over 100 members have read this thread and only one input so far.
This does not give me a good vibe... |

I have no idea. Dealers can refuse anything for any reason. If they do then you have to take it up with BMWNA. I doubt they would pick up your coding changes unless you told them as the techs would have to actually look into the coding, and they don't have the time to do that on every car that comes through the shop on any given day. The LED housings are the same US/Europe and contain motors to direct the lights...they just work differently. There will be failures of Euro spec coded lights and US lights that aren't coded euro-spec as there is always going to be some % failure of the motors (and lights) at baseline anyway. Either way it should be covered.
I've seen a couple people here who messed up their coding and had to go to the dealers to have the ECU reprogrammed to factory...and neither seemed to indicate that they got into any trouble or were charged by the dealership to do so. |

It may give them an extra excuse, but it sounds like you are used to battling them anyway.
I have quite a few coding modifications on my M3 and just had it through its 1,200 mile service. No-one said a word. In fact, my CA knows I do it and sometimes refers people to me for help...
