My experience w/ Cool Carbon ST pads + RBF 600 fluid + F30 backing pads @ thunderhill

Context:

First time at Thunderhill in my lightly modded 135i (SplitSecond Turbo Tuner chip, afe Dual Intake, RPI exhaust, HR springs, Koni Yellow Coilovers).
This was my first track day ever. Friend was running in a stock BRZ. Both of us are competitive drivers who are speed enthusiasts and are hooked to the track now.

Brake system setup:
Cool Carbon ST Pads
F30 Backing plate retrofit
Motul RBF 600 (Racing Brake Fluid)

Over Saturday and Sunday, we both had instructors to get the right line and right speeds. We pushed ourselves to the limit. We did 9 x 25 minute sessions over these two days.

Fade: None over the 25 minute sessions. I was braking extremely hard. I was running with PCA and all the instructors agreed that my brakes were absolutely fantastic and I was definitely using the crap out of them. Fluid never boiled. The BRZ experienced fade doing hard corners. I was smoking my pads doing my 120mph->35mph braking on turn 14.

Wear: Have tons of meat left. TONS. Doesn't look like the track destroyed my pads at all, but I'm sure they did do a number on them. I'm very very happy with how much is left. The BRZ was a brand new car with about 5000 miles on it (no hard driving). After the track, the pads were completely GONE. We actually rushed to the local O'reilly's and had to get him pads right before sunset (and install them in a parking lot) before making our 180 mile journey home.

Grip: Great. Just great. My tires were the fault here.

Noise: none:
Dust: Much less than OEM. Soooo little. I cannot complain.

All in all, if you run these three things in your 135i, you will have a great time. I never felt my brakes fade once. I had full confidence in them every single turn. Instructors who were all driving Porsches said my car was absolutely fantastic to drive and had phenomenal power and brakes - far more than I can use effectively.

I had a great time..I only hope my pistons aren't cracked! :O

Wow! Complete different experience than I had. You were probably out on a track with long stretches to allow for better cooling, and tires that were not that sticky ( inferior to the Extreme Performance category).

I'm not in a JB4 tuned car - and thunderhill does have a lot of straights that allow cooling for sure.

I was just chewing through my stock run-flats.

Seems the opinion from many folks on this forum isn't that positive - maybe CC did something to the pads...I had no problems at all!

Thunderhill is a fairly brake-friendly track. If you ever head to Laguna Seca, I'd recommend stepping up compounds in the front. The T2-T3 section pushes the upper limits of a pad's temperature tolerances.

Welcome to the fray though!
