Wheel Repair

So I know there was other posts about wheel repair which the op ultimately bought a new wheel so there was no resolution, anybody else have any experience with getting curbed wheels fixed with the stock black 19"s? Another post said the repair shop couldn't get the clear coat right.

I let my guard down one time and kissed the totally useless 3" curb in the parking lot! I can't sleep replaying the grinding sound in my head!

It happens to the best of us. I've had good luck with a few places in Houston on my other cars. Ask your SA who the dealer uses and give them a call. Usually same day turnaround if they are any good.

I agree. Most dealers have a wheel repair company that they work with. My local dealership charges 150-200 a wheel. You could probably get a much cheaper price dealing directly with the wheel repair company they use. I've seen some really dinged up wheels get repaired as good as new.

Good to hear! After doing some research I found that the challenge with this wheel is that's it's not painted on the lighter spot but a tinted clear coat. Hopefully the sa can recommend somebody good in San Antonio.

Do you have an idea how much I should expect to pay, I have no experience with this type of service and don't want to end up paying too much, although I probably would anyways because it is such an eye sore

I had an Audi two tone rotor wheel repaired for $150 but the curb rash wasn't as bad as yours. I'm trying to remember but as I mentioned in my original post, I think my dealer normally charges somewhere between $150-200 a wheel. It could be a little more where you're at but your dealer should have a company they use.

My S4 is due for lease turn in 3 months. I just did the same as OP two days ago and have exactly the same size of rash on my wheel. My other three wheels are like new (ask me how). Anyways, I don't think they check for curb rash on turn in inspection.

To the OP, last time I paid about $150 for repairs (this is in NOVA area). The charges are the same if it is a small nick or a rash like yours (Since they end up refinishing the entire wheel). Some mobile guys offer to do it for less (but they don't even take your wheel off the car).

I see, how did you feel about the quality? Was there any noticable marks left? I don't know how I feel about a repair that they don't even remove the wheel, that sounds pretty sketchy.

They did a perfect job... I couldn't even tell which wheel was damaged any more since they rotated the tires when they put them back on...

This was an insurance claim however (I put too much trust in AS tires and AWD and ending up side swiping a curb this past winter - Note to self, always lease expensive cars). When I asked if they could fix my remaining wheel, they quoted me $150 (ironically this is the same wheel that I curbed two days ago). So now I have 3 perfect wheels and 1 badly curbed one. Really looks odd. I imagine something like your situation. If I decide to keep this car (for whatver reason), i will repair the 4th wheel and don't expect to pay over 150. Again this is the D.C Metro area.

This is all cosmetic damage, easily repairable to new condition.

You can google for wheel repair shops to find one closest to you:

I've personally used Wheels America (Dallas location) and Wheel Solutions (Boston) in the past with perfect results

I did, it is fine, most people won't be able to tell but I can, not for the original scratch but when they repainted they for some reason repainted the whole face including the black, the problem is the curved parts are not super glossy like the original and they did not finish past the interior lip, so where the original wheel is high gloss inside and out, only the face is a shiny black. Is it better than the rash? Yes. Can others tell? No. Am I 100% satisfied, no but it's a happy medium and I'm sure I'll forget eventually.

Nope. My repair folks took way too long so they cut me a deal. Expect to pay around 100-150.

Had identical problem but rimmed out two wheels right side!! Had Momentum use their wheel people AllPro and long and short of it was a lousy job. These are very expensive wheels and they were most def not treated as such. The poor quality finish, mis-matched color on spokes and paint overspray etc etc. - now if you stood back far enough you might not see a lot of the defects but up close it was unacceptable to me. But after standing my ground I now have two brand new wheels on order at no cost to me. Everyones situation and tolerance of workmanship is undoubtedly different but I am far happier to be getting replacement wheels.

In general it is worth noting that most wheel repair outfits are having a difficult time doing an exact color match on the 19" wheels and the two-tone paint job is a hassle for many. I was quoted $200 per wheel and did not ask to get this back given that I am getting new wheels instead but I guess I could ask!!

My M3 with Black 19" rims had a small amount of rim damage (hard to see in my terrible iPhone pic) that dealer promised to fix since it was a new car. Their mobile rim guy said he couldn't fix it, so I am stuck with a scratched rim. Needless to say, I was not happy as the dealership claimed they fix them all the time before the sale. However, a salesperson at their sister store told me they were not easily fixable. Amazing what some dealers will say to close the deal. Disappointing!

I had a 8" long and very deep gouge (it would catch microfiber clothes and snag them) on the edge of one of my wheels. I had it repaired (the guy is independent and VERY good) and you have to REALLY look hard to find it. He wasn't going to charge me because it wasn't "perfect" to his standard but I paid him anyway as it is as close to MY perfect as I would have ever hoped.

The wheel requires powdercoating, manual polishing, then a tinted basecoat applied over the top before being lacquered.

For this particular wheel finish and to guarantee a perfect match, would be a lie as these companies would be using different primers, paints and lacquers to the ones used in the manufacture of the wheel.

For an identical finish to factory the only option is to buy a new wheel from BMW...

First of all, thanks for this! There is a Wheels America in Philadelphia, and i'm glad to hear they have a good recommendation from you.

I had a curb rash incident this morning, at work of all places. Tried to maneuver around a parking spot, but misjudged where the curb was. 2 small rashes on the passenger front, but enough to bug the shit out of me.

Reaching out to Wheels America today

Can you ask them to swap it out w another car and then they can find some one and fix it at their leisure?
