New Owner 128i Warranty questions

Gents,
Im am in the process of finalizing my 128i purchase thats a few states away from me. Its a 2012 with 16,000 miles, I got everything except for the manual trans which is only so my wife can drive the car if she needs too -pick your battles I guess. I was wondering if the no cost 4 year 50K mile warrany extends to me the second owner? Ive been in the Jeep game for the past 15 years so all this BMW stuff is new to me but look forward to enjoying the 128i. Anything I should know?

Semper FI!

Are you buying from a dealer or a private party?

Its a dealer the specializes in off lease vehicles -so its not a BMW dealership. If for some reason I dont get the warranty extended to me what can I do to get one?

Garage List
Check with BMWNA or a dealership... I would think the warranty does extend to you, but since it's a 2012, you've only got about a year left.

I'd personally see (if you're buying from a dealership) if they can CPO the car for you.

It'll cost $2k to CPO the car, but it extends the warranty out (from when it was CPO'ed, not the "in-service" date of the car).

Just FYI

If it's a CPO, AFAIK it does transfer to you. I did buy a '12 128 about a year back and it was explicitly stated as a CPO. Just ask your dealer about it and if possible, get paperwork that states so.

CPO is transferred.

Same with warranty.

Bought my E86 w/a CPO from a Lexus Dealership. Submitted a couple claims with that car.

Bought my E82 w/a Warranty from a 3rd Party Dealership (car is actually a lemon car). No issues with scheduled oil changes so far.

Thanks guys. I really like the car and believe it will be good to me. It was in a wreck early in its life at 1000 miles. The carfax stated that it had to be towed and then at 7000 miles it had to have an alignment done and tires checked/repaired/replaced. Hope im not buying a handful here.Says the owner was "Corporate" so does that mean that BMW owned the car? or some other corporation?

128i warranty

If you are military, or ex, check with USAA. They offer warranty service at realistic prices.

Sounds like a BMW Loaner Car.

I believe the original factory warranty extends to you, but you're just about out of that period anyway. I have to ask what the price is? And if you feel comfortable posting the last seven of the VIN...

Sounds like a BMW loaner car like the other guy said.

It looks clean though the rotors need love (one of the most common issues is the rotors rust very quickly on these cars, at least in my experience)

A lot happened to it, history-wise. So I guess this is completely your call. With the mileage, the price I'm going to say is "Fair."

That's just my .02

Any BMW dealership can CPO a car, as far as I'm aware.

The car is covered under the original factory warranty for 4 years / 50kmi from the first in-service date and mileage, regardless of who owns the car. As long as your under the 4-year mark, which will be any day for a 2012, you can take it to any BMW dealer for warranty work. You should go over it with a fine tooth comb and have them fix ANYTHING you can find before the 4 year date comes. Any dealer can look up the car and tell you the first in-service date.

But don't ever tell them you are thinking of tracking your car (if you are). They will drop you like a hot potato (USAA, that is).

Looks like a decent options package, plug the last seven of your VIN into http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

Personally, though, you will never be able to ascertain the extent of the damage from that accident. I would pass... but that's just me. Looks like a really nice car

Yea I know. Ive owned salvage vehicles in the past and had no issues. I would think that the car would have more symptons on the carfax if there were major issues. Thats why I was asking about the warranty. I havent been able to locate a 2012 or newer with under 20K miles thats comparable in price. I dont plan on tracking the car at all its just a better daily driver than a Jeep on 40" tires with no AC. If I have a bunch of issues with it I could just trade it for a 135 I guess.... Appreciate all the feedback, this looks like a great forum to be part of. Looking forward to being on here more often

It's most likely fine if you can't find evidence of frame damage (through Carfax, etc - yes, I know it is not foolproof, but it is a decent system).

Hell, I was tempted to keep my trouble-free frame-damaged leased 135 when my lease was up, since the repair work was so well done. in the end, the high miles (43k) at the end of the lease was the determining factor, so I just found a low mileage replacement and bought it.

And oh, BTW, that is a sweet-looking ride. (I am partial to black, which both of my 135s have been).
Enjoy and welcome to the family.

Mine is black and a 2012 too! I always had to resist not driving it so I know you will get that same feeling once you drive it off (if you do finalize this one).
