Improved Sub-frame insert idea - No need to drop Subframe

Does anyone have Sub-frame inserts in their hands?

I need the measurement of the diameter/width of the 4 legs on each side for Rear set and Front set. And also the Height of the inserts legs until their bases

Why? Because for science. I want to see if some other material can be used instead of Poly.

If you have used OEM sub-frame bushings you can help too

EDIT:Visual inspection of images, compared to the center hole which is for a 12mm bolt. This means that the bushing holes are of a diameter of about 6mm

Can anyone confirm?

My goal is now to take 4 rods of somethign harder than Poly of 6mm-8mm diameter and push them into the bushings from the bottom of the car without ever dropping the Subframe.

No Subframe drop because with a Transmission/bottle jack under the diff case, once can unscrew the Subframe bushing cover caps from the bottom and insert/nail in the measured & cut rods with grease and a hammer.

QUESTION: What material to use?
Derlin/Acetal
Nylon
Teflon
Polyurethane in 90A-100A

We need something that will not shatter if squeezed

The result hopefully will be better than Inserts, for even less cost.

Inserts are about about a max of 70mm- 80mm tall bsased on some images and DIY.
So most rods are sold by the foot. So each foot will make 3 inserts and some left over that can be used to hammer in the good material, therefore we need 5 feet of solid rod for 16 inserts for 4 holes per bushing

As can be seen from the Whiteline inserts, there is a lot more empty space in the OE bushings than just the holes (which aren't round, by the way). It is not clear that just filling the holes will do anything useful.

Aside from forward and sideward deflection, the OE bushings can deflect vertically by a significant amount. I doubt even the Whiteline inserts do much to change that.

Also, dropping the rear subframe is really not that difficult.

Be careful with what you're doing here. Likely you'll ruin the bushings at t0, or you'll accelerate wear and create a dangerous driving situation

1. Jamming inserts into a part that's designed to move will cause the rubber to wear out very quickly as each time the rubber flexes it'll tear around the inserts... or if they're soft, smash tme.
2. You won't be able to bond to the rubber and have it still be compliant with standard glues. It'll tear out quickly. That's why for these the rubber is molded all at once around the metal.

Polyurethane bushings are made for this purpose. 1 molded part that's solid. you may want to explore that as a safer alternative.

Thanks guys. I'll see what comes of this.

I agree the Poly inserts do not account for vertical movement

Not sure what the benefit would be honestly, the rest of the bushing is still incredibly soft. With 2 piece poly bushings like whiteline or the AKG stuff, you don't even have to disconnect the brake lines.

I understand, still have to push out the stockers. Still a job I have to do. Not satisfied with my inserts anymore.
