Rebuilding front calipers? & CV Shafts

When you guys have problems, is this the route you take?

Just price shopping common issues and I don't find any prices for reman front calipers. I do find pistons and seals, which are pretty cheap.

And as long as I have you,
CV Shafts, do they have any common issues?
I see that reman's aren't cheap at all!

What car do you have?

Neither of these are 'common' issues for a daily driver.

Sorry. Something like the '08-'10 135i brakes. When tracked it sounds like overheating them is rather common, or should at least be of concern.

Actually it's not common at all for the majority of the people here. For the handful of of guys here that track their cars hard regularly it can become an issue but it comes down to working the brakes harder than they were intended to in stock configuration. Install a set of true track pads and sticky tires and run the car through multiple track sessions and then you will start to see issues.

If you're looking at buying a 1-series, specifically a 135i, yes there are common/known problems but brake issues are not it.

Im assuming you are car shopping and wanting to know about these potential issues. For a DD you will never have issues in the areas you are concerned about. Unless you plan to make this a serious track car and that's it's entire purpose, you won't see failure of these parts. The rear axle shafts are very thick and there are cars with 500 lbsft or more that haven't broke them.

Axles aren't an issue on these cars.

Caliper rebuilds cost about $500 for the fronts using the right parts, reman'd not really an option due to $$$. For reference, I run sticky 255 tires and aggressive full-race pads (Hawk DTC70) and my front right caliper needs a rebuild after 2 years of hard tracking. It's not bad, but it is intermittently dragging the pad meaning that the innards of the caliper need rebuilt. Pistons all look fine.

For a DD, neither of these are issues. Your concerns if buying used is pretty much all motor, ask about turbos; HPFP; injectors; general maint. (valve cleanings, spark plugs, etc.)

Only front AWD CV joints are really a service item on BMWs. Rears typically last week over 250k.
