BMW Club HPDE Ottawa/Calabogie
Attended the High Performance Driver Education at Calabogie race track, run by Ottawa BMW Club.
Five 1 series were there, 1Mx1, 135x3 and 128x1. Two of these cars were instructors, other 3 students (incl me in my 128). Weather was mostly good until rain hit 15/20 minutes before our last session. Rain stopped before our session but track still very wet. I went out and had a great time. My instructor was a great help here and we did put up some serious speed. Five run sessions (2 morning, 3 afternoon) of approx. 23-25 minutes each. That equates to about 8 laps of this track. My tech inspection garage installed my Cool Carbon & Zimmerman coated rotors on front. Rear OK and still OE BMW. Also ditched the run flats in favour of Michelin PSS. Brakes performed flawlessly; usually hit 180kph at end of 2nd straight before jumping on the binders hard and they always felt solid. My instructor was excellent; known him for a long time. Driven this track before so just needed to refresh knowledge. Instructor helped me with shift points and the line. Made a M235 look silly (but he didn't know the track. What a great day of driving; now to wash off all that brake dust. |
