Ramps, Jacks, Lift
Hi Guys,
New owner here. I wanted to ask how you all get your z up in the air. i have some nice ramps that I normally use with my other cars. Then when the front is up, I use the jack and lift the back end up and I put the rear wheels on rear while lift blocks. Since I've only had my Z for a couple weeks now, I have yet to put my car up on the ramps. So my questions are: 1 - Where are the jack points? 2 - What do you use to get your car up so you can access the underside for oil changes and what not. Thanks Richard. Ohio 2006 Z4 3.0si |

This question has answers EVERYWHERE and I think it's even in the manual (shocking....)
Try harder next time. Look underneath your car along the edges and you'll see 4 rectangular blocks, those are the jack points. There are also 2 center jack points (front and rear) I'm confused though... If you have ramps why would you jack up the back as well to change the oil? As for oil changes it would be faster to get a vacuum, that way you don't need to bother with raising it at all! Quote:

Thanks for the quick response.
1. I use ramps for the front and then jack up the rear and slide my rear tire blocks. This sets the car level at about 1' off the ground and this is with out jack stands and is safe and sturdy. I've been using this method for years. http://budgetrestomod.weebly.com/wheel-blocks.html http://budgetrestomod.weebly.com/ramps.html I've read some articles on here about the vacuum, however it doesn't appear that my Z has a oil dipstick. Not sure the vacuum would work. I'm on the east side of Cincinnati. |

Yes, the Si does not have a dip stick, you have to do it the old fashion way. I used my Rhino ramps until I lowered the car, now I use Raceramps to change the oil. I also have a set Esco jack stands if I need to lift both ends up.

I would recommend these
http://www.amazon.com/BMW-128i-E46-3...ck+pad+adapter I have a set, and they're very nice if you're using a floor jack with the standard round pad. It lifts the contact point up out of the floor jack "dish", so they're less chance of the dish contacting the car and damaging something. They also work great with ESCO jack stands (best jack stands you can buy) http://www.tooltopia.com/esco-10498....d-AaAqr28P8HAQ |

Reverselogic also offers ESCO jack stands with custom built-in blocks for BMW jack points. A bit overkill but very cool.

I start off when lifting the front, by jacking up one of the front sides, using the jack pad behind the front wheel and my smaller secondary jack. This allows me to see the central front lift point and also allows my primary jack (long and low profile) to fit underneath the front bumper and reach the central point. Then I lift it using the central point, and put jack stands on the side points. For the rear, I stick a block of wood over my jack and lift from the area behind the diff, in front of where the two angled brace things connect. Not sure if this is truly the central rear point but that's what I found when doing research initially. |

Look under the car, you'll notice parts of it are composite plastic, and part of it will seem metal under the doors, closer to the tires (and sometimes in a depression, like a trench) - that is where you want to mount up the car.

Rear lift point for 2010 (E89) Z4
I'm able to locate the jack stand slots next to each of the tires as well as the front lift point.
I've found a few images online for the rear lift point but none of them appear to be for the E89 Z4. If someone could post one it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Wayne |
