New Z4 Owner - also a couple of questions...
Hello everyone. At the end of March I will take delivery of my 2008 Z4 Coupe. Its Space Gray with the Sports Package and Xenons.
Z4 is definitely a big upgrade from my current Acrua RSX. Thanks to all of you that post regularly b/c I was able to get alot of good info on the Z4 before purchase. Now a couple of newbie questions: 1. This is my first experience with Z rated tires. How many miles are you guys getting out of them? 15K? 18K? 2. Is there any reason that I couldn't put all season Goodyear F1's on the Z4 when the OEM tires wear out? I don't race the thing or anything. DC area doesn't get alot of snow in the winter so I don't want to pay for full-up winter tires. 3. Is there any reason that I cannot replace the factory stereo head unit (non-navigation) with an aftermarket headunit? The guy at my local car audio placed acted like it would be a mistake due to wiring or something. Like I said, I take delivery in late March. So if you see a Gray Z4 Coupe in Arlington, VA with Penn State Alumni tags then stop by and say hello. For those of you in the DC area: Fairfax BMW has a fully loaded 2008 Gray Z4 Coupe that they are offering extremely agressive pricing on. It had the poplar wood trim which was a complete deal breaker for me otherwise I would be driving that. But if you are in DC and looking for a deal on a fully loaded Z4, stop by Fairfax BMW. Also there is a guy named Casey Parkin at Tischer BMW in Silver Spring, MD who is good to deal with. |

1.) Depends how hard you run your car. I'd say 15k is reasonable, but I'm also on performance summer tires and I hated the RFT's they came with.
2.) You could, but F1's suck in the rain, and being a RWD car, you do NOT want all seasons in the snow. Without Snow Tires you are going nowhere. Better to keep your stock rims for snow tires and get a nice set of aftermarket rims for summer if rims were in your plan anyways. Otherwise el-cheapo aftermarket rims and snow tires is another option. 3.) Only not doable if you have the Carver system. You can go aftermarket if you have the standard radio or premium setup. Other alternative is to go all out and replace every single speaker with aftermarket and rewire it all. Other: Tischer is really good on this forum with supplying OEM parts at great prices. And hope you love your Z as much as we love ours. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome local!
I wish I could speak better to #2 above, but I went with the dedicated snow tires + cheap rims option for winter as soon as I bought the car. I can say I made it through all of our minimal snow quite easily with it, and look forward to getting some max perf summers once the weather warms up. And you can ALWAYS upgrade a stereo, even the carver system. pbdm4k is wrong; my car came with the carver system and I upgraded to an aftermarket system just fine. I was never happy with the stock system and upgraded right after I got the car. I went with the Pioneer Avic N4 flipout navi / HU, its fantastic. |

If you upgrade one thing on the stereo you will usually have to upgrade at least one other thing as well. As long as you want to foot the bill you can definitely upgrade the system.

F1's are awesome in the rain. I can hardly break traction from get go.
stock RFT's can last 20k if not more depends on how you drive. My F1's have 20k on it and still have few ticks left on it

Very Clean! Congrats!
Looks beautiful. Very unique with the 2 tone interior. Should stay cool in the hotter months. Great acquisition!

thanks, i can't wait to get home and take her on the open road ,out of the city,i know some good ,long roads with some scenery, i was thinking of doing the aux/input upgrade, but i'm leaning towards an aftermarket unit,i have even bought the kit from autotoys.com, i plan on keeping this one,it was hard enough to let go of the mustang,i plan on driving it and hopefully enjoy every minute of it.l

Sorry, I should have quoted who I was referring to. Who I was referring to was Z4INHTOWN and his purchase of a silver 2.5. I didnt see the buttons for the power soft top.
