How to tell if the car has BMW PE?

Is it possible to tell whether the car has BMW PE without listening to the sound?

If so, how?

The tips are a bit thinner and polished, not black.

Also, there's a tacked on plate at the bottom of the muffler that states it is the performance exhaust.

As mentioned above mostly by the look of the tips and the sound of it.
Take a picture of the exhaust to compare the pipes and make sure they also match the pics provided by Dackelone

If you're looking for a visual dead giveaway, the performance exhaust won't have the vacuum actuator for the door on the left exhaust tip.

If you're looking at pics of cars you are interested in, the chrome / black is the easier way to see. You'll also learn soon to recognize the stereo levels, the shape of the seats to check for the M Sport package, spot the seat heater buttons, and so on

Oh, just thought about something. Is BMW PE = BMW M-PE? Or M performance is another story?

I assume you're talking about the 135i, right? BMW only makes the "Performance exhaust" for that car, other than the stock exhaust that comes on the car AFAIK. The 135is is the only 135 that comes stock with the Performance exhaust.

BMW makes M Performance exhausts for some other models, though.

Is the car and exhaust available for you to take a pic of? If yes, Take a pic and post it. Or, is there a pic of said exhaust online? Again, post it -- we should be able to tell you if it's the Performance exhaust or not.

Hmm... The only reason I asked is, if I want to upgrade the exhaust, only performance exhaust is available to e82? Or M PE has an e82 version too?

Only PE is available for the 135i(e82). Btw...I think soon BMW will discontinue making it, just like they hay with the short shifter kit and some other Performance stuff.

///M Performance is for the M cars(M4/M3 and some other models).

Is this true? They might discontinue the PE? What if we get in an accident or something happens where we need to get another one? SOL?

IDK. The SSK has been discontinued. I think it could happen to the rest of the Performance line. IDK. I thought there was a German law saying they have to offer all parts for 10 years. ?

That would be tragic.

BMW recently changed their replacement parts programs to 7 years, if I remember reading that correctly. They also stop production of replacement parts after a model is discontinued. I read a post about it on bimmerpost a couple weeks ago. Don't know if that decision was ever made, or approved, but that was the speculated plan to save BMW millions of dollars per year. Given that BMW would even entertain this solution as an option, makes the 10 year law seem untrue.
