M4- Autocross impression
Tracked my M4 for the first time today.
Impression Brakes: no fade good bite with stock pads Transmission: left it in aggressive mode. Big mistake You want to paddle shift the entire time the transmission Does not hold the correct gear at times Tires: decent but the true limitation of The vehicle I thought. Too much power and Not enough traction. Power:More than enough Suspension:Good minimal roll.good response also predictable. Steering: responsive but lots of under steer From crappy traction. Overall 3.5 of 5 rating. Recommend upgraded tires.

hmm....interesting/informative observations.
i wonder if your perception of the M3/4's deficiencies would change if you were on a road course. maybe at higher speeds, the stock brakes would be the limiting factor. i'm debating upgrading pads and fluid or more aggressive rubber (RE11, AD08R) for an upcoming DE...

Been said a bunch already, but going to HPDE or autocross is a waste of time on the stock PSS tires. Unless you're a beginner you're going to need to upgrade rubber.

No doubt that no one's going to win an autox with stock MPSS tires. Or will they?
I find that with front camber, the car is behaving quite well on autox lots, and it is quite fun to get the car to rotate on the rears (steering with the rear ). I am not in the top 3 yet in the BMW CCA Tuner class, and probably won't get there, but my son is leading the Novice class thus far, so you never know Not that it means anything, but my times thus far are better than cars in stock classes by 1 to 2 secs, but I have to run in Tuner 1 class due to camber plates, everything else is stock. We'll see how the season develops. Last edited by FTS; 06-28-2015 at 10:18 AM.. |

MPSS are great for the street (quiet, grippy enough, great in the wet), but overheat easily on autoX/track. They front tires will start chunking when overheated and pushed to the limit.
YMMV, a

I just purchased my first BMW, a Z4M roadster. I have tracked and autocross in recent years. I won't be tracking the roadster but I would like to autocross a bit just to get my driving jollies. I plan to stay stock, I guess she runs in B Stock? Anyway, I think I can add the front strut tower brace and still be stock?? The BMW rims are heavy and right now they have Goodyear fun flats on, a real killjoy to drive aggressively.
My plan is to purchase some Apex Arc 8's, 18x9 / 18x10. I am considering Bridgestone RE11,s and NT05's. I know the RE11's are stalwart when it comes to autocrossing. I have run NT05's on my STi and I really liked them. Any thoughts on whether the RE11's are with an extra $50 a tire over the NT05's? |

OP what's your autocross experience?
I just took my m4 vert to BMWCCA event today. My car all stock with 19" rims. The car handles excellent. It is so balanced. A little understeer but if you brake enough let the car enter into corner, it is very neutral in the high speed turns. It may slide a bit but with controlled throttle steering it is very predictable. My time is about 0.5 behind those E36/E46 guys with suspension mods and better grip street tires. I had 10 years of autocross experience but my last event was 5 years ago. Note mine is convertible with 500 more lbs than Coupe. I believe M4 coupe can do a lot better. Here is what my setting is All sports + Turn off traction control Front tire pressure 39 psi Rear tire pressure 36 psi BTW, I found with top up, my time is at least 0.5-1 sec faster than top down Last edited by EliseRR; 07-25-2015 at 10:54 PM.. |

Aren't r comps allowed in the stock class? How about just doing those?
I read above someone has camber plates and stock tires? Going into a modified class with the combo seems really tough |
