Clunking noise from left rear of the car

Hi, I just noticed tonight when I just start to pull the car out of the garage in reverse at low speeds I get a clunking noise from what appears to be the left rear tire area which almost sounds like a stone or something banging around back there. It's more obvious in reverse and it completely disappears when I am going at higher speeds and driving the car normally. I thought there might be a stone caught somewhere that was thrown free but when I pulled back into the garage it started making the noise again. It's a metallic plink plink sound like something is being thrown around and banging up against something metal.

It's not associated with the engine and it seems to be coming from the left rear well.

There is nothing that I can see loose on visual inspection of the car.

Any ideas??? Thank you!!!

Yes. No junk in the trunk. First thing I checked.

It's probably stone between the rotor and the dust shield.

Sounds like it's something caught in the brake shield or the shield catching on something. This has happened to me several times. I've never found anything and it always goes away on its own with no damage...or just the hookers.

Get a screwdriver out and start cranking around with it, something will fall out.

Yep. Had this happen just the other day. Only at drive thru speeds

This happened to me. There was a pebble stuck in my brake shield.. it came out on its own. Just do a few high speed runs and you'll be okay

This is the very common cow bell syndrome. You have a stone in there. Sometimes they free themselves but no harm in whipping the wheel off and having a prod.

I happens. Ignore it and it will go away. Had it on both my M3's. Don't ignore other clicking noises
