V8 sensitivitiy

Strange thing happened yesterday. Some of you may have seen in the news section on the main Bimmerpost page, there was an article about the new 2016 M3 US Beta configuration. People were discussing different options/builds etc, and I posted asking, jokingly, if there was a V8 option for the 2016 M3. Guess what? That post has mysteriously evaporated into thin air. I would love to know why. Answers on a postcard, please.

I'm sure an admin removed it.
There's a lot of sensitivity on the F8X site probably because behind the scenes there's some financial motive. Search around, there have been people banned or given warning/infractions from saying things that are irrelevant or not true.

there is a lot of forum fighting that goes on when you start talking down the engine over in the f80 section. So i can understand why the admins do what they do at times.

hell i cant even post over there. But its probably for the better because i cant stand the S55 motor.

Your post was deleted so you didn't start a shit storm - at least that's what I'm assuming.

I think you're probably correct, but why so sensitive?

Few days ago was walking with a friend (E350 driver but loves Ms) in downtown and he spotted a new F80 M3 at traffic light. He said, "Wow, that looks very good, are you trading in your M?". I told him just listen! The moment M3 started moving, he said, "WTF is that? You better keep the V8!!!" It was awful in person.

It is no longer politically correct and deviates from the Party line.
All hail the S55

It's to put out fires before they start.

People need to chill out. Every engine, be it a Ferrari V12 or a Cummings diesel, has its pluses and minuses. And that extends to the naturally-asperated V8 in our cars and the twin-turbo inline 6 in the new M3/M4. Engineering, driveability, and packaging all require compromises, and the compromises some of us accept are intolerable to others. Without diversity of opinion the world (and these boards) would be extremely boring.

in the moderator's eyes, you are poking the bear by posting that. They have significantly cleaned up the F80 vs E92s in the F80 threads...too many fights and hurt feelings...a few fine young men from the E92 forums were banned as a result. It was tragic era.

I got a text from a friend about two months ago saying he heard the M3 and it was terrible.

Its really puzzling how there are good sounding 6 cylinders and bad sounding ones. IMO a 370z, GTR or 911 sound good. maybe not S65 good, but to the point where its more pleasing to the ears.

the F80 sounds straight up terrible. I think the 4 cylinder STI sound better.

Frankly, I just don't understand that at all. This is a discussion forum, and as was mentioned earlier, there needs to be a breadth of opinion, not just the accepted party line. The fact that the F80 M3 moved to a turbocharged inline 6 from a V8 was a great disappointment to many, especially in light of the latest RS and AMG offerings. The fact that this continues to be a taboo subject on these forums, after all this time, is revealing.

people join car forums to get help, meet fellow owners, and just talk (type) about cars. They dont want to join a forum where half the people are just bashing the car. thats why i understand what the mods do.

The F80 haters like my self made our points to the guys over there. the mods at least it us do that before giving us a ban on the section.

Buddy of mine took me for a spin in his new F80 M3 today. It was my first time ever driving in one. The s55 is an absolute beast. It pulls like a freight train.

The problem is, what may have started as a discussion almost always ends up in a flame war suck fest with a side of trolling.

There's a lot of sensitivity here, too. We've lost some good men to these wars.

This is a trying time to be alive.

You may very well have been considered trolling with that kind of comment given the flame wars around the engine platform.

That said. Everyone talks about sound and I thought they were exaggerating. Then I heard a new M3 drive off in a parking garage and it sounded so cheap! I'm was sincerely shocked. Seriously, what kind of car doesn't sound good in a parking garage? It was inconceivable really.

That that said. I heard another F80 M3 with only a downpipe and the "keep my exhaust in sport mode" option and it sounded properly beastly.

Stock, the new M3 is downright embarrassing in the sound department.

but owners don't care. They have artificial sound pumped into the stereo system of the car and that's all they hear.

Even if they can't hear us having a giggle, they can feel it.

I hear these things all day. It's not right. That said, I didn't hate the one I heard the other day with the Akra system.

It will never be the S65.
