If you have comfort access it has to be a key that's never been imprinted.

Didn't car come with two? Go with the one remaining as long as u can. $600 for a key even if u have the cash is thievery. In the meantime maybe the lost one shows up.

No do not buy a used key. You are essentially paying BMW for cutting and chipping the new key. Think of it as they are throwing you a free key fob housing.

Comfort access can be programmed afterwards. If you want to save $200 then you will have to live with unlocking your car and putting the key in the slot like normal. If this is just a spare i would skip comfort access.

It really is just close to $400. Like i said buy the key and skip CA feature

Try calling the key hotline. They usually charge cheaper. 1-888-575-KEYS

You seem to know a lot about the subject, so I'll throw another question your way. One of my dogs chewed up one of my fobs. The physical key is in perfect condition, but the fob portion with the chip is more or less destroyed. Is it possible to get this part on the cheap?

Just -- last week -- ordered new comfort access key from dealer here in Georgia. $254.40 for key. $149.00 to program / code the key to the car. Took 2 days to get to the dealer, and I did not need to buy the little metal key thing, since I still had mine. They said it was $40-50 more. That would put it at $450 or so all in, just for comparison's sake.

We have looked everywhere for this freaking key it's a mystery. The biggest problem was I was over an hour away from home. I really don't need the vallet key cut. This is only a spare incase I loose my key again. Peace of mind. But 600 I am getting raped. Is there any other options. I just want it to unlock my doors and start the car. Also for resale u should have 2 keys.

Just order the FOB remote. Save the hard key (slide key) since you can reuse that for the new one. You'll most likely save around $50-$60.

When you call the hotline they will need to verify you own the car and you get to pick the closest dealership to pick up the key. Turnaround is 1-2 days

There are also alot of people who are more than capable of coding and programming these keys and other cool stuff. I actually just saw one guy charging $50 standard for any programming. Good luck!

I did some research today and unfortunately I have to buy the key locally. I tried California and a few other locations in the U.S and they told me I have to buy from a local dealer. U are definitely correct the key does come programmed. The dealer also told me you can't even buy a used or In Fact a brand new key from a member. Each key is specifically programmed to your vin # when u order it from Bmw. Which allows you only to unlock/lock and start ur vehicle. U just won't have keyless go/memory seat features. This is how the dealer rapes you. Big rip off. Don't loose ur key fob period. To bad they can't be tracked like ur cell phone.
