Moving from E88 to E93
Hello, All! I'm set to trade in my 2011 135 MSport vert for a 2009 M3 vert. Car has 48K mi, and had all brakes replaced 8,000 mi ago... but I'm not seeing any tranny or diff. fluid replacement. I don't believe Mike's lifetime service stuff calls for these until 60K, but thought I'd check here -- in addition to saying 'Hello!' and seeing if anyone had any advice/suggestions/things to watch for with this make/model... I've heard the LSD can sometimes go wonky, but other than that, the E93s seem to be rock solid!
Cheers! |

Manual or DCT? I would do diff now if never changed. Also see if spark plugs were ever done (suppose to be 37k). Also, drive car with roof up and windows down and listen for rattles. If so, get dealer to align roof. I went from a 14 235i back to the M3 E93 and could not be happier. Hope you enjoy.

DCT... Sparks changed 16K miles ago, so they should be good... I'm going to ask the dealer to change diff. fluid before I drive it off.
Thanks! Looking forward to joining the M crowd! |

I believe Mike's call for the tranny fluid is 30k miles....
Check other fluids too... Power steering, coolant, brake fluid... It's not ridiculously expensive to do them all at the dealer (DIY even cheaper), but it gives you peace of mind, especially if the service records you have do not show those fluid changes.... I changed ALL my fluids when I bought my car, although it had 50k on it and service records didn't really show all fluid changes... Enjoy the car! It's fun...

Thanks for the reply! All brake fluids -- front and rear -- replaced about 11K mi ago; I was thinking tranny as well, and coolant is a good idea.
Cheers! |

I had a 2011 E93 going off warranty, to get 1.5 years 25k miles extended warranty was $6,200. Dealer had red loaded M235i with a stock on lot. Took for a drive and really liked the car. They gave me qa good price for the M3 si I sold. After several months and 6k miles he were my gripes:
1. I actually now like dct over manua 2. Seats in M are far nicer plus leather is nicer 3. Gauge cluster was oddly narrow on M235i 4. HK Stereo sucked compared to M3 enhanced audio 5. number steering 6. I missed convertible top. Pros: 1. Better gas mileage (21 versus 18) 2. Nicer nav screen 3. better cup holders I saw a 2102 E93 cpo last fall and bit the bullet and swapped out after 6k miles. Cost me 5k but was worth it.
