you'll probably need a compound/polish to revive that

I've got the same problem, FWIW. The finish is oxidizing -- you'll need something that specifically fights oxidation, followed by one or two different polishes to restore the gloss.

I was tempted to mask everything off and just lightly sand and spray it gloss black, but never got around to it.

Do I need to use a buffer to do that? I don't have any currently so I am wondering if hand rubbing would work?

there are hand polishing pads you can use. you can try to do it with a microfiber towel too, but i have no idea if it will work or not. might not be enough cut.

so do I apply compound first by hand and if it didn't work I should switch to buffer machine? or is it polish that is going to determine?

Thanks rjd598 for the help.

i would start with compound since you have oxidation. try that by hand then if it doesn't work you have to go to a machine.

No offence Bimmer but how does it become like that? On my 4th BMW with gloss trim and they never shown anything like it. Might be worth to have a chat with the dealer about quality fail?

Cheers

Got it Bimmer. Well in that case I'd be all over the trims polishing and waxing to try keeping in in shape.

Good luck!
