Are these RPMs a bit higher than avg (at certain speeds)

So I finally got my first BMW last Friday.
White 08 e82 M3 DCT w/ Fox Red Novillo.
68,600KM
Eisenmann Race exhaust and a set of winter m5 rims and blizzaks.

Now one thing I noticed that kinda bothers me is that at about 120KM/H the car is at 2900RPM in 7th gear
and 2500 rpm at 100KM/H

Does that seem a little high?
Will resetting the ECU/TCU fix that issue?

Other than that I love the car so far. Gas bill has defs increased. (I'll have to post some pics later on)

My 6mt needs a 7th gear lol. Yes these cars run higher than "normal." Took me a couple of days thinking i needed to upshift one more time after I hit 6th.

I have owned 4 cylinder 5 speeds that ran lower RPM at highway speeds!

Thats the one thing missing on these cars - another gear to bring down high way RPM. Can't have it all but this comes very close!

Ummm... The redline is 8,400 rpm and peak torque is reached at 3,900 rpm. The problem with cruising at 70 mph at 2,000 rpm is that you would need to downshift in order to accelerate with any verve. Yes there is more engine noise at 3,300 rpm than there would be at 2,000 rpm, but the car isn't meant to be a luxury cruiser. Besides, how many people on this board complain that the stock exhaust isn't loud enough?

Thanks, I assumed it was cause it was a high revving engine that it would be higher than your avg. car but wanted to double check to see if it was normal amongst m3s

How often do you need to accelerate hard on the interstate during a long trip? Lower RPM improve gas mileage. My Corvette had a 7.0L motor with over 500HP but it still got 30 MPG highway while the BMW gets 20 MPG. The difference is the Corvette ran 1600 RPM at 80 MPH instead of 3800 RPM.

Your m3 is at 3,800 rpm at 80mph? Did you forget about 7th gear (if DCT) or 6th if manual?

I remember my s2000 was humming along at 3k @ 60MPH so no I don't think it's too high in the M3.

The Corvette also produces substantially more torque than does the M3 and doesn't rely on high engine speeds to develop its high horsepower. Lower rpms don't necessarily improve fuel economy, especially if you aren't maintaining a constant speed. My M3 gets better gas mileage at 80 mph in 6th gear than it does at 70 mph in the same gear. By the way, I don't know what gear/final drive ratios you have, but 80 mph in my M3 translates to a little more than 3,300 rpm, not 3,800.

DCT is 2650rpm at 110km/h so assumingly 2-300 below MT from what it looks like. Still hight though...
