Help me pick between these 2 M3s please

Im in a market for an M3 and seen 2 i like.

1st is:
2008 SSII / MT / EDC / EPS / CCC

Second is:
2009 space gray / DCT / CIC

Both have almost exactly the same mileage.

Advantage of the 1st to me is the colour and high end audio. But the second is newer model and has CIC and has much better paint finish. First one needs some work with the paint.

Im fine with either MT or DCT as the car would be used for both city and spirited driving in country back roads. DCT for city driving would be great while MT for weekend fun.

Logically the 2009 should be the better buy as its newer, has CIC, paint is excellent condition. But the SSII to me is amazing colour, exclusive and sets it apart. Also has a CF roof. And EDC. And the audio!

Is there a clear winner here?

I'd go for the 09 simply because it is newer and needs no paint work.

But you won't have nearly as much fun in the DCT that you would in the MT

Get 2009, newer CIC makes the old look ancient! And something you look at and use every time you drive
Also the DCT is faster and robust and you can still have fun with it

Don't let CIC be a deciding factor, it is easy to retrofit the cic vs retrofitting audio speakers, or carbon roof or MT or paint the car. You get the gist.

The DCT is a work of art, particularly when paired with the high revving 4 liter. But you should really drive both 6mt and DCT and decide for yourself.

It's really tough to imagine the condition of each one. For now the second one but what's the mileage on each one and the price?

Holy crap great job not getting into a 6MT vs DCT age old crap guys!

OP here are a few weighting options IMO:

The 2008 6MT will be a lot more fun to drive across the board. While the paddles are more efficient on the track, nothing will replace driving a 6MT. There is just something methodical about controlling everything the car does, rather than just clicking a button to shift. Even parking, giving it a tiny 1500 throttle tap to pull into your parking spot is intoxicating! The audio is a huge plus, and the idrive is meh, nbd I don't care as much about the CIC.

AND

The 2009 Often times I wish I had gotten the DCT for times I am in traffic. If it's rolling traffic (even at like 5mpg) it's fine. But that LA traffic with stop and go for an hour plus absolutely ruins any enjoyment of the M3. The DCT would be really ideal here. If you like the more tech route where all you have to do is click a button to shift, this is the way to go.

Is there a price difference? I found that my 08 was about 10k less than the 2011 that I wanted. So I had a decision to make... Ultimately I decided that having an extra 10k for instant mod money was the way to go. I had close to 10k in parts purchased on my very first day of ownership, and haven't looked back since!

Hope this helps, even a little! I feel like it was pretty fair.

2008 silverstone II is the better one... But I prefer a manual trans and premium sound so that is why I choose it... What color is the interior on the silverstone II car?

The 2009. CIC is far more modern and easier to use.

The whole nav debate is really dependent on the user. If you grew up during the digital age and are already accustomed to working with newer and older technologies (i.e. adaptable), then you can overlook the old UI and speed of the Nav. If you can over look that, then compare the other features. It's honestly not that bad. The iDrive still displays everything you need, but it wont be in HD or look pretty.

It's kind of funny to me how many people like SSII. I have an SSII and really don't like the color much. In fact, I'd trade for space grey in a heart beat. For what it's worth, between the 2 cars above, it seems the 2009 is clearly the better choice. Can't you upgrade the sound pretty easily?

Yes, the EPS is difficult to upgrade. The base system is not.

Comparing apples to oranges here. If you want 6mt get that, but if you want dct then get the 09. But if you did want mt, I would look for one 09 and up.

I choose neither. I would never buy an E9x of 2010 MY or older.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Its a hard decision because the SG is cleaner. But I would really prefer manual even though i wouldnt be unhappy with DCT. Both would be good but i want an M3 for fun and MT would just add to the fun factor.

The gadgets i dont care much for so CCC can be upgraded to CIC if i wanted.

The only thing im hesitating about the SSII is the condition and the fact the engine was rebuilt (see my previous thread here -> http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1163828 ). Apart from the engine trouble it had and the paint it seems the perfect package. EDC would be nice and the individual audio is a huge bonus. I suppose this could be retrofitted or an OEM upgrade to the base stereo if i chose the SG.

Decisions decisions

Mileage is 62k miles for both. Asking price for SSII is US29k and SG is 27K.

Both cars have novillo black interior.

Yes the individual audio is top of the range and sounded great. I would not even consider upgrading it.

If I got the SG first thing i would do is replace the rod bearings. Im thinking of pricing the SG at 26k plus rod bearings replacement. If I could get the SSII down to that price then add on painting and CIC upgrade it would be a good deal.

I would go with the SG. I'm not too much into the SS as a color.

6mt for sure. In 20 years you'll look back and be glad you had the last gen NA V8 M3 with a manual.
