Head Up Display Cleaning
Hi everyone-- noticed while cleaning my car that the glass (or plastic) display on top of the dash that projects the HUD image collects a fair amount of dust. The manual says not to use any household cleaners or chemicals or liquids on the displays and to only use a microfiber cloth. But I'm thinking if a liquid wasn't used it would cause scratching-- even with a microfiber. Wondering what you all do to clean your displays?

Use warm not hot water to soak the cloth then wringe the cloth so it does not drip and clean it. So basically with a moisturized cloth. I use it on my glasses too because from my experience a dry cloth microfibre still leaves scratches.

So I've tried the damp micro fiber cloth on my HUD and iDrive displays. While I agree that this is the method stated in the manual, my screens are left with water marks. The manual says not to use any cleaning solutions. I can live with the water marks as it doesn't affect function. But it's a little messy to look at it. Any ideas?

You should use a moisturized cloth not weth cloth. If you have water marks then the cloth was too wet. It should really be only a tiny bit moisture.
The only reason it has to be moisturized and not dry is because the dust particles on a dry cloth will be like using sandpaper hence it will scratch the display. |

I found the best option is to use a feather duster and vacuum
Place the vacuum near the hud void not in it to create a negative pressure zone and use the feather duster to disturb the dust particles. I've found that a natural feather duster will not scratch soft materials. |

How did you get condensation under the HUD glass? I don't think that is something you can just wipe away.

I have no clue, and yea they'll have to take a apart the dash and put it together hence why they didnt't just do it and had to ask corporate first before doing the work

I've lightly sprayed Windex and wiped worth a microfiber cloth with no issues. Not my first go around with a HUD. No issues so far.

I'd imagine something like this should be safe and do the trick: https://www.amazon.com/Zeiss-Pre-Moi...NsaWNrPXRydWU= |
